how to stream songs from my tilt to my car radio

Hey guys,

I have ATT tilt. I was told I could stream music or mobile XM from my phone to my car radio via blue tooth.

I have 2006 bmw 330i with blue tooth and it works great for the phone part, but i didn't see anything on how to stream it.

any help would be great!

thanks,

Kevin

I was in the same situation as you last month when I got a Prius. Bluetooth phone but not Bluetooth audio.

So I searched around and bought a Jabra BT3030 ($56 with free shipping from buy.com). The BT3030 is a bluetooth receiver with a headphone out. I stream the music to the BT3030, plug the BT3030 into my aux in jack (which is in the armrest in the Prius), and I'm streaming music through bluetooth. When I paired for the first time I set the BT3030 to only be used for wireless stereo, just to make sure it wouldn't interfere with the car's handsfree system (the BT3030 has a mic on it, so it can be used for phone conversations as well, but I wanted to still use my car's handsfree).

I've only used it a couple times, but I think the trick for it not to interfere with the car's handsfree system is to pair the BT3030 with the Tilt before turning on your car so the wireless stereo is ready (turn BT3030 on first, then activate the Tilt's BT), then the car's handsfree system fills in the bluetooth gap without interfering with wireless stereo. It may work other ways, too; I've only had the 3030 for less than a week.

Before I used it I was worried about audio quality of the BT3030, especially the buy.com expert review, which said it wasn't good. I completely disagree. The music sounds no different than it did when I had a direct wired connection between my Tilt and the audio in jack.

Now, get the BT3030 and also download Microsoft Voice Command, and you've essentially got Microsoft Sync. It's quite nice.

yep, I 2nd the idea of using one of those bluetooth audio receivers. I got a no-name one from ebay, paired it w/my tilt and plugged it into the aux in on my car stereo, and now I just play my mp3's synced to the microsd card instead of having to change out my mp3 cd every few weeks (once I get tired of the only 700mb of selection on a cd, vs 4gb microsd card haha)

and it sounds just as good as using a direct usb->audio cable!

ALSO, using MSVoiceCommand is great -- just like you said jyknyc, it's just like MS Sync!

That's ultimately what I'm doing as well, using a Blackberry Remote Stereo Gateway connected through the armrest. We have a Lexus with a 2007 Pioneer AVIC-Z1 A/V & Navigation system, and it can do handsfree Bluetooth with the phone function, but doesn't have a A2DP function for music (ironically, the newest Pioneer nav system does). The biggest hassle is that we had to special order a RCA connector from Pioneer and have it custom installed by Tweeter on the back of the A/V because the Aux in is located on the back of the receiver, but that's a one-time expense.

Another thought: you can take a Revo Pico Wifi portable Internet Radio, set up the Tilt as a wireless router, and connect the networked Pico to the Bluetooth gateway through a headphone cable. While a bulky wired solution to the problem (for the four to six hours of battery life the Pico will have), it has the advantage of allowing you to use the Pico's built-in Reciva menuing system for finding Internet stations and podcasts. I have Pocket Player on the Tilt and find it a cumbersome way to play custom selected Internet stations, but it's OK if you know the URLs in advance and have a limited number of stations to listen to. Regardless, it's awesome to be able to play Energy 92.7 from San Francisco, Reshet Gimmel from Israel, African music from Angola, and salsa from Puerto Rico with the sunroof open!

Sooner or later someone's going to come up with a GUI Internet Radio mobile device that will work with A2DP tech or an Aux in, but in the meantime this is a start.

Here's another related question...I use pocket player with my tilt and a tape adapter to play MP3's through my car stereo, since that gives much better sound quality than the bluetooth or FM transmitters I've tried.
Question is, my Tilt will stop the music when calls come in, and I can hear the caller over the stereo, but no way for them to hear me. Anyone know of a workaround or if I'm missing something?

Thanx...

Bluetooth stereo is not a Bluetooth hands free kit.

Solution: put the phone on speakerphone or buy a hands free Bluetooth kit... there are a few to be found with discounts in the MobilitySite discounts link in my sig
