Difference between hard/soft reset.

Can someone explain to me the difference between a hard/soft reset as well as the steps to do so?

I want to install KaiserTweaks on my phone which suggests a reset - however I finally have this thing configured properly (Activesync, E-mail accounts, Task, calender, Notes, Themes, Ringtone, Menu, etc) - will I lose all this in a reset?

Thanks in advance guys.

Madzamboni.

hard reset = new phone right out of the box, all data lost
soft reset = same configuration, no data loss

What you need to do is a soft reset for the tweaks to take....
Quickest way to do a soft reset is to stick the stylus tip in the little hole that is above and to the right of the mini usb connector on the bottom of the device

Quickest way to do a hard reset is Start\Settings\System\Clear Storage enter 1234 and you're back to stage1

I installed KaiserTweaks and did a soft reset. So this leads me to newbie questions:
  • Does installing Tweaks automatically make the changes I need to my phone to improve power management (it had an XML files with it), or do I need to make specific changes in the menu itself.
  • Am I supposed to see an Icon for KaiserTweaks somewhere in my programs tab or settings tab. Because the only way I see to get to it is to go into "Explorer" and re-run the exe file.

Again, thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Rougue9 - Thank you for the quick explanation. Some of the other stuff I read was a little convoluted and made me nervous to follow.

It's not automatic, you'll need to drill down thru the menu to make any changes. Usually it'll require a soft reset for the changes to take effect.

I don't have an icon either. I went to start\settings\personal and hit the menu button and added it there. Then all I need to do is hit start and it's in the top secion of the start menu.

So the final question would be - what are some recommended settings other have tried and liked?

Play with it a bit and see what you like - When you toggle thru the different settings options you'll see Advised, default & def. Advised etc....
You could go with all the advised settings and then tweak as needed, I tend to forget which changes I just made if I do more than a few at a time. The thing to keep in mind is there's nothing that you can do with this utility that will break or damage your Tilt.
