Tilt battery drain.

My tilt's battery has been draining at a ridiculous rate for the past month. I went from one charge in the morning lasting me 8 hours at work, to having to charge it two or three times in 8 hours. In the past month I installed Voice Command, Opera 9.33 beta, and Skyfire beta, and Tom Tom 6, Live Search. Has anyone experienced a drain with any of this programs?

do you have anything running all the time like a push email, WIFIprogram or an IM like aim ...also where you are the most do you get a good signal?

The tilt is known for bad battery life. tweaking things like back light helps. Do a google search for Kaisertweaks (if you don't have it already)you can make some "behind the scene changes" on your tilt.

If your problem persist it may be your battery or , in an extreme case , it could be a hardware issue with you tilt . but that is unlikely. There are roms out there that can improve battery life but that can be a big step

I have Kaiser Tweaks. I've had my Yahoo email set for 6 months. One month ago, I started working somewhere that didn't have 3g. My phone started getting edge and gsm. That and the mentioned above are the only things that changed in a month. The battery drains even when I'm at home in 3g.

Question

Here's some new info. My tilt's battery gets ridiculously hot at times. Normally it happens when the battery is very low(under 10%). Yesterday, I turned the phone off because I was concerned at how hot it was. I decided to take the battery out then I put it back, turned on the phone. I checked my battery and it 38% charge. WTF! Does anyone have any ideas if this is a bad battery, or phone or as I suspect some program draining it?

I don't have a tilt, but accelerated battery drainage has been an issue with many other pocket pcs. You might review an article I wrote about this, which included many things to check and some additional things to do to turn off functions that could be contributing to the problem and to identify applications that could be running in the background without your knowing it. Some of the things described in the article may not be relevant to your device, but you may find something useful in the article:

Exorcise the ghosts in your Pocket PC

Have you also performed the so-called dummy server fix that stops the pocket pc from turning on in regular intervals and attempting to sync? Performing this fix may not be necessary, but won't hurt anything either.

Going down to next to nothing in 3 hours can't be right. go to start/settings/system/memory/running programs and see what is on. I check Email every 30 minutes, do about 100 minutes on the phone, and even do a game of solitaire now and then, and wind up at night with 60%. Either something is running, or you have a bad battery.

I Feel Your Frustration

I would bet that your battery is the issue, but

1. Skyfire has been reported as a power draining and a CPU intensive application. I have signed up for Beta II, but have no first hand experience with Skyfire, yet.

2. Mugen makes excellent replacement batteries. If you don't mind adding a few millimeters thickness to your Tilt, you can even get a battery with twice the power from Mugen, and it comes with a replacement back panel for the Tilt, because it is a thicker battery. Even their regular Tilt battery has a bit more power. (not thicker)

Other factors for battery drain are is bluetooth enabled, that can certainly help. GPS can also cause battery drain, and Wifi being enabled will drain your battery fast.
From my experience, if I leave my phone on at home overnight, my battery will be dead, because I have no signal, leave it in the car and its has a good 50% left because there is a minimal signal.

An update: I have never used Bluetooth. I have constantly checked to see if anything is running in the background( have found nothing!) I uninstalled Voice Command. It made a difference. Tried to uninstall Opera( I hate Opera! I really hate Opera!) It left the damn Opera Widgets behind can't get rid of. I have Skyfire but drain was happening before that. I started working in an area without 3G about 2 months ago. I started getting dropped calls like crazy. That's when this issue started. That day. Don't know if its connected . There were posts about the dropped call problem on XDA,PPCGeeks, and a couple of other sites. Oh as far GPS I have Tom Tom that I used twice in three months and Live Search I used twice in six months.

i am deaf myself and been using my tilt every minute. the battery on mobile lasts 8 to 12 hrs a day. it depends how much i use like internet, IMing, and emails. i use mail2web email which is direct push. i tend receiving and sending about 100 emails a day. mail2web or any exchange email does save the battery life. i had experience with yahoo or gmail or any email that did drain the battery quicker. using GPS or bluetooth do drain the battery quicker !

check mail2web.com - Pick Up Your Email - it is free pushy email service, btw.

i m very happy with my tilt. it s much better than my old 8125.

it is possible your battery is bad.

I'm guessing you already have done this, but just in case... Have you removed all the bloatware? I had battery drain issues like that when I first got my Tilt. I didn't even use it and it would drain in about 4 hours.

Once I removed the bloatware and put my desired programs on there things changed. I have instant email updates, talk for an average of about an hour a day, do frequent internet searches, use several of my installed programs frequently, and can even throw in some GPS time and my battery gets drained to about 60-70%. I've used it normally, without my above average usage minus the GPS time and I've had my battery last me about 50 hours.

how is your signal? i live in an area that does not have 3G. im currently out in vegas that has 3G. if you are in an area that is kinda in between it may be bouncing back and forth between networks causing major battery drain...i am kinda going through this right now. i will be uploading a cab that will let you turn off the 3G and see if that helps. or in the mean time the cab is called comm manager, the guys at the at&t store gave it to me so i know it can be found somewhere.
comm manager ( it may take a few attempts to get it to install)

Thanks guys for the help.:approve: First off, I have not removed the bloatware. I didn't do it because like I said it was working pretty good up until I went into the Non-3G area. It might be just a coincidence. I have Kaiser Tweaks installed and have sleep disabled. I had this set two months before the problems. I might have some programs conflicting. I have Tom Tom and Windows Live as well as Yahoo Go. These programs use GPS. Do you know if this programs will run in the background or boot up the check GPS so it can get a fix faster.
