Can a Tilt expert help a new owner out with a couple of questions?

Hey Fellow Tilt Owners,

I am a new and proud owner of the Tilt and I am loving this phone. However, I have been looking around and I am confused with some of the programs, softwares, etc and thought I would ask some fellow Tilt owners for some help. Here we go:

1. Is the TeleNav free? (I don't think so). If not, how do I delete it?
2. I have installed NoData and disabled both data programs. Even though I am on WiFi, I cant use the Instant Messaging software (ie AIM) or the Weather software. Is it because both require data?
3. Is there a AIM and weather software that I can install to use with WiFi?
4. Can I delete the weather/IM software off my tilt?
5. How can I get rid of some of the programs on my tilt without having to do the resets that arent on the Add/Remove program?
6. I installed google maps and it keeps showing my home location as something that is totally different than my actual location. On my tilt owner info, I have my real address, yet the google maps keeps showing the wrong one. How can I change this?

Sorry for the long post and hopefully my questions werent too dumb. LOL!!!

Also, what are some cool softwares/add-ons I should look into?

Thanks!

I am a realitively new owner too - so I don't have all the answers.

However as it pertains to your question on TeleNav and Google - you may want to take a look at "Live Search Mobile". It is a free application with Satellite/Google-style maps, Directions, GPS Navigation, tells where the cheapest gas is, etc. You can go here - to download it: Live Search Mobile.

As for the cool applications, I would follow this link to another thread called "Your Personal Top 10 List and Resources". You are going to spend a while sifting through it and following good leads.

As for your other questions on removing extra software, I will let someone here give a better answer than I.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

1. Is the TeleNav free? (I don't think so). If not, how do I delete it?

Nope, it's not free. think it's $10/mo (I don't use it so I don't know for sure)
I think this is part of the AT&T bloatware, check the link @ the bottom on how to remove

2. I have installed NoData and disabled both data programs. Even though I am on WiFi, I cant use the Instant Messaging software (ie AIM) or the Weather software. Is it because both require data?

For some reason all of the IM's I've seen will not work w/ WiFi, and exclusivly hit your data plan. Not sure which weather prog you have but I use Pocket Weather from SBSH and it does work via WiFi

3. Is there a AIM and weather software that I can install to use with WiFi?

LOL, reference above comment

4. Can I delete the weather/IM software off my tilt?

Which weather and IM programs are you using?

5. How can I get rid of some of the programs on my tilt without having to do the resets that arent on the Add/Remove program?

If you're not seeing them in Add/Rem then they're either built into the rom or added by AT&T. Instructions on how to remove the AT&T crap are in the link below

6. I installed google maps and it keeps showing my home location as something that is totally different than my actual location. On my tilt owner info, I have my real address, yet the google maps keeps showing the wrong one. How can I change this?

I don't use google maps, but I'm guessing that you need tell it to center on your GPS location (or something similar) it doesn't reference your position based on what you put in the owners information

Check out this link for some good tips on speeding up, customizing and enjoying your Tilt

This is an issue with any AT&T device (and maybe other carriers too) with data and Wifi capability. These devices are designed to use a data connection first for many of its functions. You can probably change some connection settings to prevent this from happening. For instance, if you disable your GPRS settings altogether and connect to WIFI, you'll probably be able to update these things through your WIFI connection....that's how it works on my hw6925.
