If you just bought a Tilt, what all would you do to it?

I've had my Tilt for a while now and I don't feel I'm taking full advantage of what all this thing can do.

I saw a website of a guy that reviewed it and he said something about resetting it to get rid of all the junk software that comes preloaded on it and then had a few suggestions of what to add on it.

I remember he had some different displays that I really liked, especially the keypad that took up the entire screen.

Also, has anyone used this messaging system?
IM+ All-in-One Mobile Messenger: AIM/iChat, MSN/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk :: Windows Mobile Pocket PC :: Products
Does that go off of text messaging or data? I have unlimited data, but not text, and I want to put AIM on it.

Right now, the only thing I've added to it is Google Maps, which I love, but I have problems accessing some sites. For instance, I can't log on to wells fargo and theres another site, Directechs I use for work, that when I enter my username and password and hit submit, it just refreshes the current page instead of logging me in. Will getting something like opera help with that? Can I put opera on my tilt? How would I go about doing that?

Thanks!

This is not the only one, but it works great for me.

Not free.. I bought a "lifetime" license.

Best part for me is you can send audio messages,
and it works with most messaging systems at the same time using only "Data"

Agile Mobile - MSN, ICQ, AOL, AIM, XMPP, IMPS, Google Talk & Yahoo! Messenger for your mobile phone

To get to secure sites like Wells Fargo, disable the proxy, then open the browser.
start/programs/tools/proxy manager
You may have to change the DNS setting in connections instead of "automatic" which give you ATT Media net, to a generic one. If you still don't connect after disable of the proxy, try another DNS combination per the threads on this BBS.

Also, I synced my phone with my computer for the first time last night, should I be able to bring up my contacts on the computer now?

When I had it connected I could click on contacts in the sync window, but nothing would ever come up.

I would like to get rid of all the junk software I dont need by resetting the whole thing, but I dont want to lose everything I have because I didn't back it up properly.

Thanks for your help so far!

I tried hard resetting my phone, but i still have options like 'get telenav' and 'get xpress mail'. Does that mean I did not do it correctly?

A hard reset is going to return it to factory settings. ie with all the crap they load on it.

I unlocked mine with HardSPL and loaded a cleaned and optimized ROM. Very glad I did it too. Highly suggest doing it.

You need to do a hard reset with a soft reset at the proper moment during the boot process. I think I read it is a 3 second window when the AT&T logo comes up. But search around for the proper procedure.

Here is the link I found it in the Tilt FAQ

What is this though?
"when the 3-second countdown to the "custom app" installation begins."

After you hard-reset and the Tilt comes up in Windows the first time, a window comes up that says something like, "Customizing applications". It gives a 3 second countdown and you can press "Cancel". (It's been awhile, I don't recall the exact wording)

You want to press Cancel at that time. If you allow the customizing process to continue, it installs all the "junk" software.

Okay, I think I got it this time.

Your phone will reboot, then it will do the align screen thing, then ask if you want to enter a password, after you click finish, it will go to the home screen for a split second, then give the count down, thats when you hit the reset button.

The app i like most for instant messaging is Palringo... and it's completely FREE!!! I don't know what the catch is.. so if someone else knows.. let me know.... but if you've never heard of it... Palringo Vocal IM

one thing i did to mine was put a few coats of clear nail polish over the power button so that it protrudes from the body of the device a little... and it looks sooooo niiiiiiice! So i can turn the device on and off in the dark.. LOL. not a software ad-on.. but still it's a really nice and easy mod.
