GPS / Street Atlas USA 2009

How is Street Atlas USA 2009 on this device? The Delorme website doesn't spend much time describing PDA/Phone capabilities vs PC capabilities.

I'm just wondering, since this is just under $40 and all the other GPS/PDA software is $100.

I tried searching these forums and it returned nothing...I don't know if it's a search problem..

Thanks

If it is anything like the previous versions (I have SA2008) it is not very good as a PDA map. You basically cut maps and put those pages on the PDA and it works as a nice 2D map. However, the more expensive maps have 3D and verbal instructions. I use the included TelNav and like it alot - even though it is expensive at $10 month. You might also try Google Maps and MS Live Search which are both free and as good as SA

Keep in mind that these options will require an activen data connection. While a good stand alone GPS program may cost you around $100 it does the following:
1) works for free with the onboard GPS (no monthly cost)
2) doesn't require a data plan (again, no monthly cost)
3) won't leave you stranded if you get stuck in an area where there's no cell/data access

I found that I still had an old (2002) Xmap Handheld Street Atlas USA.

Even when I set it to NMEA 0183 and com4, it says "No GPS connected"

Any ideas? VisualGPSce works fine.

Thanks

Interestingly, I don't see a speed setting -- but there is a separate
NMEA 0183 (57600)

Whaddayaknow... I set phone to 57600 and the program to NMEA 0183 (57600) and I now have a 3D lock.

I guess now I need to get Activesync working (another issue), to get some maps on here besides the area around Delorme headquarters to see if the program works.
