AT&T nickels and dimes me quite enough... for 9.95 a month, I'd just as soon buy TomTom or iGuidance and a 8gb card and still come out ahead

I bought a 4 year subscription to Telenav for $249.99 (comes out to a little over $5 a month) a couple months ago after using it for a few months. It's far superior to Google Maps--I don't even have that installed on my phone anymore. And it's also superior to TomTom or other navigation systems because Telenav includes real-time traffic for no extra charge and it automatically updates its maps for free. Also, you don't have to waste your microsd slot on a navigation program.
The 249.99 for 4 years and a $99 for one year options are available on telenav.com. There's also a 30 day free trial--you might as well try it out. I believe the four year option can be transferred from phone to phone so long as you keep the same phone number--at least that's what I remember when I called them up before getting the 249.99 deal.
iGuidance4 - $109 8GB MicroSD - $38 Use coupon code TFD20POFF
Not dedicating the microsd slot to GPS alone <2GB for entire N. America maps
Onboard GPS - inculded
Traffic is heavy everywhere I go, I don't need a program to tell me that :)
Also I dont need a data plan for iGuidance and it looks like you do for Telenav
First, I'm guessing you've never used iGuidance, unless you actually have a Tilt with no data plan, which in itself is odd. From the iGuidance store site:
"*V4 has conflict w/ ATT's MediaNet wireless data connection & must be launched first before GPRS/EDGE/3G connection is enabled." That's just funny.
Second, how often is iGuidance updated? How much does that cost?
Third, you don't want a navigation program that will route you around traffic?
In all, I don't think you'll be spending any less than $250 on Navigation programs plus a $40 memory card over the next four years. And if we spend the same or are close, I win because I don't waste almost a quarter of a memory card, I get constant updates, and I get real time traffic with rerouting.
Finally, I've only got 1.2 gb left on my 8gb microsd card.
I've been using iGuidance v.3 for the past 3 years on 4 different PDAs @ $90/one time cost. I do indeed have a data plan for the Tilt but it's not required for navigation since I'm using the onboard GPS. The best point I can make here is that you will not get a consistant data connection in many parts of the country but the GPS will work wherever the tilt can see the sky.
I've installed two updates since original purchase and there was no charge.
The less than 2GB storage that I mentioned was if I installed the maps for the entire continental US. I rarely travel out of PA but I installed the maps for the East coast states and it came in at about 300MB - I'm guessing that if I'm going cross country that I'd know at least a day or so in advance so I coud install the rest of the maps.
Just my $.02 for the OP so they got both sides

Voice input works fine. I use Telenav, not AT&T Navigator. I assume they are the same, though. The voice input is just a phone call, and it asks you questions and you answer them. It's accurate.
But really, just go to telenav.com and take the 30 day free trial. It's free.
By the way, another plus about Telenav over other GPS solutions (and the main reason why I don't use the voice input): You can input addresses from a computer through the My Telenav site. You have a login and you can manage your addresses online. Then you just sync Telenav with the Tilt, and you're good to go.
I used TeleNav for the free month when I first got my Tilt. I liked it. But $9.99 for a subscription is too steep for me. I use Windows Live Search and love it. I really don't need the voice, it is nice though.
I like WLS much better over Google Maps, WLS is easier to see the arrow than the dot. (one)
2) I like the directions on the bottom
3) I like the way that WLS counts down the distance
4) The Home Page on WLS is very user friendly. I use it to locate hotels and restaurants.
I will say that google used to acquire faster though. But I am using a Cooked ROM and have to "Fire" up my GPS using GPSTest first. So it is now about the same to acquire satellites between the both of them.
I tried Telenav for several months and ATT Navigator which is the same software. It worked with the Telenav account I subscribed to directly from Telenav.
What I liked about it:
1. Online storage of Destinations. If you wipe your phone, your stuff is updated automatically when you re-install the software.
2. Online routing. From your PC you can find destinations and download them to your phone.
3. Quarterly map updates.
4. Traffic Service.
What I did not like about it:
1. Must have a data connection to work. So, if you are on the phone or lose signal, you are out of luck. Miss a turn while talking or out of coverage, it will not reroute you. This is ultimately what caused me to cancel the service. If only I had the ability to download the maps and operate disconnected, I would not have cancelled.
2. Slow connections mean no detail on the map. As you are driving, it has to constantly download the map images. There were many times I woudl be driving and all I had was a plot line on the screen. No cross streets, no background.
3. The concept of quarterly map updates was nice, but they use TeleAtlas, which in my area (Dallas/Ft Worth) is woefully behind. They were missing streets that have been here for two years and have been on Navteq maps for more than a year.
4. No multi-point routing.
5. Traffic service is sometimes really wonky. For a solid week it was reporting heavy traffic in part of my route that never existed. And that area never has heavy traffic without a major accident. Which I have never seen in three years of driving that route.
Since then I have tried two other products.
ALK's CoPilot 7 - Returned this product. I don't know who makes their maps, but they were way off in my area. I mean non-existant streets showed up and POI's over 20 years old could not be found. The app itself was great but running it from the storage card and playing music at the same time was impossible on the tilt. It would lock up between songs.
TomTom Navigator 6 - I really like the product, but they have ended support for it so I cannot get map updates. I received a free trial of their traffic service which I liked, but their support couldn't tell me how to subscribe and I couldn't find it on the website.
