Should I buy a Tilt or iphone??
What is your opinion?
I have some $$ for my birthday and am shopping for a new cell phone contract. I looked at an iphone and although it is very sleek, it just did not win me over. I particularily do not want a data package since I am within a Wifi spot 90% of the time and don't plan to surf the net while driving.
Basically, what makes the Tilt great or why is your next device going to be an iphone.
Thanks - Brian

Make a list of what your phone MUST be able to do for You
Make a list of what it would be nice if it did for you
Make a list of what it MUST NEVER do.
Work out how much each device will cost over the next 2 years. including contract.
From these lists you can work out which device is best for you.

I just want a tilt owners perspective vs the iphone since most of the hype now a days is for the iphone. I just want to see what people like more than the iphone or don't like compared to a tilt. I have yet to see a good article on the comparison and contrast of the 2. Thanks

To actually answer the poster's question, instead of simply criticizing it, here's the top things that make the Tilt far superior to the iPhone for my purposes:
1) Stereo bluetooth. Once you experience A2DP, especially during running, you can't go back to cords flopping around everywhere.
2) QWERTY keybad
3) Rhapsody compatibility
4) Exchange email with no issues

The things that have kept me from going iphone:
1. Easy to replace battery
2. nearly endless supply of free programs plus great ones if I want to pay
3. physical keyboard
4. I can customize how it looks (homescreen, colors, etc.)
5. I can always upgrade the memory to whatever I want (microSD compared to built in flash)
6. The ability to try out cooked ROMs if I ever care to
7. Not needing itunes to sync (although Activesync or vista's mobile device center might not by much better but its what I'm used to)
Mostly, it is so much more flexible, I can choose whatever I want, when I first got it, it was a little overwhelming but at this point, where I was getting board of my other phones, I'm starting to really enjoy customizing it. The iPhone is a great product but what you see is what you get, the tilt can change to fit how you use the phone. I will admit that I'm a power user that likes to tinker with settings, if that's not you, you may want the iPhone.

Do you desire extensibility and usability? If so then the Tilt is your device, however it comes at the price of being more difficult to use. Just think about how big of a gadget do you want.

There are also lots of trials for PPC. There are no trial software options on iphone. I also read a lot of ebooks. The iphone now has the option of a limited ebook (ereader) program. You cannot read your own content. I know this will evolve later but for now not good enough. I also use TOM TOM for navigation and am not willing to give it up.

Based on what I have read lately, you might want to take a look at the new Treo 800w. The 'w' means it is the WM 6.1 OS.

Go to this link for a side by sid ecomparison of some of the technical features.
Compare cell phones | PhoneDog.com
If that doesn't work just go to Compare cell phones | PhoneDog.com
and search for both the phones.
The reason I picked the Tilt over the iphone was the slide out keyboard and the camera is better and becuase I generally try to avoid Apple products.

Can't make that decision for you. Its entirely dependent on what you want to do with your device. If you want more of the "entertainment" (video, music, graphics, games) stuff than I'd say the iphone is for you.
If your more interested in productivity tools for work/organizing your life I'd say the tilt, or a Blackberry is your better choice. Caveat Emptor.
