Activesync deleting contacts on phone

Ok so I synced my Tilt with Outlook to get all my contacts from Outlook to my phone. My intention was to only do this the first time (just to get the contacts to my phone). I changed my sync option in ActiveSync to only sync my calender and tasks list. When I sync now, all my contacts on my Tilt are deleted! So now I'm stuck having to sync my contacts each time when I don't need/want to. Is there any way around this? I only wanted to get my contacts onto my Tilt the first time. And from this point forward, I'd like to only sync my calender and tasks from Outlook. Please help. Thank you!

when you do it that way the phone simply mirrors what is on your computer. If you were to add each contact manually after you disable syncing of contacts it would work fine, but that would take FOREVER!

Instead an easy way to do this is to set them to sync and use the tilt's included backup software to backup just your contacts. Disable Contacts in activesync, and of course they will all delete. Then use the backup file to restore all your contacts.

Thank you, what is the backup software you're talking about? I went to Programs >> Tools and found "Sprite Backup". I this it? I went through the selections and didn't see where I could just backup my contacts. Where do I do this?

Regarding the syncing, does this mean after any future sync attempts with the contacts, if I disable syncing it will remove all the contacts I've added up to that point?
