Plug in headset not working

I purchased a wired headset to use for listening to MP3's, but I cannot get them to work with my Tilt. The speakers aren't faulty, as they work on my wife's Razr fine, but, although the fit in the USB slot just fine, it is as if they aren't plugged in.

Is there a "audio out" option I need to turn on?

Are there compatibility problems with wired headphones? One would assume that if the plug fits, the sound will come, but perhaps I assume to much...

You need a special plug for the tilt. My friend has the L7 W/iTunes and his headphones do not work for my tilt, I found a plug on e-bay (search for tilt adapter) that looks exactly like the plug on the bottom of the phone. Here are 2 adapters that work great:

NEW 3.5mm AUDIO ADAPTER+HEADSET FOR HTC AT&T TILT 8925 - eBay (item 120290155203 end time Aug-03-08 06:28:01 PDT)

and

NEW 3+1 STEREO HEADSET USB ADAPTER FOR HTC TILT 8925 - eBay (item 120290174710 end time Aug-03-08 08:01:54 PDT)

Here is what it looks like:

The usb pins on htc and motorola devices are wired differently. So they aren't going to work.

Aha! Easy enough. Thanks. I can still use the headphones for my wife's phone...

Ok while we're at it. What are some good wired headsets. I have the factory ones, but I can't stand the fact one wire 4" long and the other is 20" long. Are there any that are the same length?

you can buy adaptors that will let you plug in whatever 3.5 headphones you like....

I looked it them but I have my phone in its case while I'm listening to music at work. The adapter doesn't fit in the case I use. I'm barely able to get the factory headset to fit.
