Dropped, Color Issues
I hope this is the right location for this reply.. otherwise I'll start myself a thread :)
Earlier today I dropped my beloved Tilt on the asphalt in a parking lot. The back cover came off, and left some good scratches in the bottom right casing. The "Wifi" and "Enter" keys somehow popped loose, and it took some work with a screwdriver to hold them down so that I could slide the screen over without ripping the keys out and getting them jammed under the screen.
After being dropped, the screen and everything worked fine. When i got home to fix the aformentioned keys, I turned off the phone. When i turned it back on, the coloring resolution is drastically limited now. I get the color gradient effect, where the screen cant seem to produce multiple shades of white and blue (in the ATT welcome screen).
Is there a hidden set of display settings i can get to and reset or change? Otherwise I'm gonna try a hard reset and see if that will fix my problems.
Thanks.

Yes, please start a new thread for a question that has absolutely nothing to do with the 6.1 upgrade.

Doh, i could have sworn the thread title was "Tilt Windows Mobile Problem Thread" as just a general problems thread.

here's my approach.
when you're doing the hard reset, when the device prompts:
"tape the screen to continue" - stop.
Get the stylus primed and read to do the soft reset.
Hold the stylus with your right and.
Then with your left hand, tap the screen with your finger.
You have to do the soft reset before the countdown dialog starts.
Have been running all day today - no problem.
Have not installed any third party apps.
also I notice I am missing a lot of bloatware from the "Programs" folder

I can testify this works... took me several attempts before I got it right. Now, no more bloatware!!!

Problems I have noticed since upgrading to 6.1:
*Text disappears when screen is flipped open. Also, when I go to open any program in Spb Plus at different times, I will get a windows logo on a blank page with a corner dog eared as a supplement to the usual icons.
*When phone is started, multiple errors occur. Examples: filesys.exe, shell32.exe, (EventType: WinCE501bExceptio) cprog.exe, (EventType: WinCE501bSnapShot)
*When the device is locked the screen will not dim automatically as it would in 6.0.
There are others I don't remember, but those are the majors at the top of my list.

AT&T Tilt WM6.1 ROM Icons needed
I need some help to find the original AT&T icons - somehow one of the programs I installed wiped out the icon images - I still have the .lnk files, but soem of the icons have generic images attached.
For instance, "Tools" icon is now a regular folder icon, same for "Games" etc.
I do not want to go through a Hard Reset again.
I see alot of various .CAB collections - but have not seen collection of icons.
If there is a .cab that I could run to restore tyhe original icon but without destroying my current setup - that would be the best.
Thanks in advance
Vladimir

WM6.1 problems??
Hello:
Excuse me for interrupting but I just have to ask....are all of these problems listed here to do with folks who've updated their Kaiser to Wm6.1 or also including those who bought a HTC Kiaser with WM6.1 installed?
Reason I ask, I've been looking at an unlocked Kiaser that comes with WM6.1 and am wondering if I'll have these problems to look forward to or not?
Thanks

1. I am having significant problems connecting to the EDGE network for Internet, synchronization and other data uses. This is not a problem during the day when I am connected through the 3G network; it happens only when I am at home at night where there is no 3G service and the phone must use EDGE. The only way to get it to connect is to soft reset the device multiple times. The number of times seems to vary. Also, when this happens, I notice that the battery drains very quickly. I did not notice this problem when I first upgraded the ROM and let the ATT bloatware load. I noticed it only after I performed a subsequent hard reset and did a soft reset before the bloatware could load.
2. Sometimes when I press the power button on the right side of the Tilt to turn it on, I see a quick flash but the device doesn't stay on. I then have to press the power button again to turn it on. It doesn't happen all the time--I would say about once every 10 times turning on the device.
3. This could be a problem with the very buggy Opera 9.5 beta, but when I load up Opera, I frequently get a multi-colored flash of lines before the home page appears. Nothing serious, but annoying.
|
To Piperpilot, I do not think it is your Opera OS, I have the same problem but with more frequency, it happens to me about 6 out of 10 times and I have the Mobile 6.1 and IE. hope this narrows it down for you.

The text disappearing problems are caused by having ClearType turned on. It sucks, but if you turn it off, you should be good to go.

IDing the Windows Mobile version
Pardon the rookie question but I'm not sure which version is running on my Tilt. When I tried to install 6.1 I got a message that said the version that was already installed was newer than the one I was attempting to load. The info displayed in the "About" page is "Windows Mobile 6 Professional"
CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4). Does this imply 6.1 or greater is already there?

Produxtor, it looks like you are on 6.0. If you were on 6.1, it should say "Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional". I am using a customized ROM, so I've also got a different version of CE OS etc.
Not sure why you are getting that error message, are you sure it's the 6.1 upgrade you are trying?

Buckyg - A thousand pardons. Turns out what I was attempting to install was "Office" Mobile 6.1 not Windows Mobile 6.1. I guess I assumed that the two are intimately connected and that if I have v6.1 of Office Mobile that I must have v6.1 of Windows Mobile. Is that a good assumption? I have not yet found a way to display the version associated with the Office Mobile package.

No problem, you're not the first one to get tripped up like that. They are different. As in, you could have Office 6.1 but Windows Mobile 6.0. To find out the version of Office Mobile, open up one of the apps and click Menu, About.
