New SD Card Won't Read on Computer

I just brought a new SanDisk 4GB micro. It works fine inside the Tilt. I copied all the files from my 2GB card onto my computer so I can transfer onto the 4GB. My computer will only read the 2GB card from a PNY card adpator (weird).

I'll try another computer and see what happens. I would really like to use this card since the 2GB card is filling up fast. (movies and music)

Thanks in advance.

you may need to apply a drive letter to the storage device.

if you right click on "my computer" and select "manage"

on the left side of the computer management window, select the "disk management" mmc.

insert your sd card and it should show up in the list of storage devices.

right click on your sd card when it appears and select "change drive letter..."

select a new letter for your sd card, say "S" or whatever you want.

apply the change and now it should mount.

this happens sometimes when you have a lot of drives or network drives mapped to your computer.

if the card does not show up in the list, you may need to reformat the card on the device with a utility like pocket mechanic professional

I'd bet that you have a SDHC card but not a SDHC reader in the PC

any SD card over 2GB is considered an HC (High Capacity) card. You need hardware and drivers that is capable of reading the high capacity cards. You may need to check the manufacturer of your card reader for new drivers, or purchase a new card card reader that supports the SDHC cards.

Not true, you can buy regular SD cards larger than 2GB.

yes, you can buy sd cards over 2gb. However, they are considered High Capacity cards. The original specifications for SD only accounted for up to 2GB in size. To get higher capacities, they had to come out with a new specification - the HC specification. So anything over 2GB requires hardware and software that knows about the newer HC specification. And the new specification is only good for cards up to 32GB. If they ever start making cards with capacities higher than that, they will need another new specification (and new hardware and drivers).

I don't want to get into an argument about it, But 4GB cards are available that are not considered HC, and as such can be used without driver or hardware upgrades.
I personally have several 4GB SD cards the function perfectly in my X51v that doesn't have the SDHC driver installed or WM6 update. I know the drivers aren't installed because, firstly I didn't install them and secondly if I try any of my SDHC cards in it they don't work.
To avoid confusion, I have two X51v's, one has all the upgrades the other is a standard Dell A12 ROM.
Yes SDHC is a different format, but I repeat, Non SDHC cards are available larger than 2GB.

There is suppose to a driver for MOBILE WINDOWS 5.1 that will let it run a 4gig SDHC, but no larger. I believe that MOBILE WINDOWS 6.1 will let you run un to 32 gigs of SDHC.

Thanks to all for your suggustions. I brought a SanDisk micro card reader
($10.00 @ Staples) on Friday and was able to transfer the data from my 2Gb card to my 4Gb card. I'll probably get an 8Gb card some time soon. :approve:
