(where to put) Files for ringtones, alerts, mail etc.. ?

I might have asked this before, but I'm not getting answers anywhere. I really want to be able to have the Tilt access files directly from my micro SD card in order to use them as ringtones, alarms etc.. But every time I try and use a file for a ringtone, the Tilt automatically copies said file to the "My Documents" folder on the main memory. After a while, this is going to cause the memory to be depleted.

Secondly, even if I wanted to use files from the Tilt's main memory for rings and such, it seems there are redundant directories that can be used. But I'm not quite sure of exactly what kind of files should go where. In the Windows folder, there's a "Rings" sub directory. I've put my ringtones in there, and that works fine. They will also work from the "My documents" folder, as stated earlier. However, If I want to access files for use with MMS or text files or e mail alerts or alarms, I'm not sure of where to put them. I'm guessing that if I toss most of them into the main Windows directory, that will solve the bulk of it, but I don't think it works for alarms...

Can anyone help with these things ?

alerts and alarms are in \windows (*.wav)
ringtones are in \my documents\my ringtones and \windows\rings (*.mp3)

All my ringtones are on my storage card. I can access them no problem. Put on the storage card directly. If you want make a folder on your storge card. Put your ringtones in it. Go in to Media Player on your phone. Update library. After that your ringtones should show up in sounds and notification. Do you have WM 6.1? Because there is a file size limit for ringtones.

I'm still running 6.0. Aside from that, I already have them on my micro sd card, in a folder called ringtones, but whenever I choose to use one as a ringtone, a message pops up saying that said file has been copied to the device within "My Documents". I can't figure out a way for the ringtones to be accessed directly from there, without them being copied first.

@Radimus: Do they really have to be .wav files ? Why would they want to do that to the end user ? Such uncalled for file sizes... I'd hate for that to be the case, but you might be right. Just haven't tried it yet.

Thanks guys.

Notifications are short... don't do want some people have done and put a 4 minute long wav file as a new SMS alert and then discover there is no way to suspend it...
