Serious phone problem in large 3G markets (Atlanta & Detroit)
I travel a lot and go through Atlanta and Detroit frequently. About a month ago I started experiencing a serious problem. When I activate my phone when the flight lands I am unable to make or receive calls or text messages when the Tilt is connected to a 3G network. It acts as if the call will be dialed - then gives a disconnected message and the call fails. Text messages generate a "message cannot be sent" message. If I catch the Tilt just as it connects while it is still on and E network it works fine. But the instant it hits 3G it has no connectivity.
I am frequently in other smaller cities with 3G such as Memphis and Nashville and experience no problems there.
What could be wrong that I couldn't connect in these large cities where the connection should be great? I've already had a new SIM installed and I have done a hard reset - no improvement. Of course I can't test this most of the time since I'm not where the connection fails.
Any reasonable suggestions will be appreciated.

I talked with a couple of AT&T engineers today via phone. They both agreed this was a unique issue that neither of them had heard about. They said they'd check their databases and discuss this with others and get back with me. The present thought is that it's something to do with my phone but the fly in that soup is that it works with 3G in other cities.
It's not a huge issue but I'll be glad when it's corrected. Hopefully I'll hear something from them tomorrow.

I have had my Tilt for a little less than a year and never had any problems. Then, 2 weeks ago I was in NY and every call that I tried to make would be pre-maturely ended and every text message give a message that it couldn't be sent. On the way back from NY (as I was driving) I was able to receive and send calls and text messages. When I arrived in Chicago the problems started again. After some research I found that the problems were only happening when the 3G network was being used. There were no problems when the Edge network was being used. I took the phone to an ATT store and all they tried to do was sell me another phone. I would be very interested in any answer that the ATT engineers can give.
Thanks

I had one that did that back in February. If it lost 3G and went to Edge it was fine but if it went to GPRS, it would not go back to Edge or 3G no matter what. so if I drove and it lost signal, it would never get it back. ATT replaced it, and no more problems. Some do that I guess, and it is a defect. My suggestion, get a replacement. Otherwise, a soft reset brings it back to getting a signal.

I was in Braselton, GA (about an hour north of Atlanta) for a race two weeks ago. My phone was in Edge mode versus 3G the whole weekend and the reception and service was lousy. As soon as I got back toward metro Atlanta it hooked up and worked fine with 3G. I was still running WM 6.0 vs 6.1 at that time. Other than that, I've never had an issue with Atlanta.
