I'm desperate! I loved my tilt prior to 6.1!

For the record, I'm not dissing the tilt. I love mine. I'm new to smartphones like this in general, so every step I took in changing it to my liking has been one learning process after another. However, after about two months of loving this device and learning as I went, I hit a brick wall. I was drawn to the upgrade to windows mobile 6.1 by the threaded SMS texting, as I text quite a bit myself. I read up on it to make sure I didn't screw something as serious as the OS up, and proceeded to upgrade carefully following HTCs directions. Almost immediately I noticed the negative effects! My phone is terribly sluggish now, specifically with typing ANYTHING. I have a good one or 2 second delay on any button I hit, and a it frequently freezes for about 5 seconds every 5 minutes or so. I've also struggled with setting pretty much any song clip as a ringtone, ones that worked perfectly with 6.0 simply don't work. Even the touch screen sensitivity has been effected. I noticed this immediately as the phone started up after the upgrade, prompting me to calibrate the screen. Sometimes I have to tap the screen considerably hard for it to even pick up on the touch! I'm very frustrated. This phone was fast and effective prior to the upgrade. Now I feel like I have an old device due to horrible sluggishness!

I've googled for countless hours, yielding no real results. I've done a hard reset at least 3 or 4 times, which seems to make the phone work as fast as it used to, but only for a short time; my estimation would be less than an hour, even. As wordy and redudant as my above ranting may be (which I apologize for), I've reached the conclusion that instead of trying to figure out each individual problem that my phone is having, because, as I previously mentioned, I'm terribly inexperienced in such matters, I'd be content on just downgrading to windows mobile 6.0 since it was at least reliably without issues.

If anyone can give me any kind of advice, perhaps pointing me in the right direction, I'd be forever grateful. I'm not sure where to find the 6.0 ROM, and how to go about downgrading without killing my phone. Thank you so much for your time and any words of wisdom you may have to offer!

Welcome to the site....
If you're looking to speed up the keyboard you can try this little gem from our friends over at XDA

If you're looking to downgrade bck to the original 6.0 ROM, you can get it directly from HTC

Also from our freinds @ XDA.... the Kaiser Wiki

Cannot see what I am typing.

Since I upgraded to 6.1 I cannot see what I am typing with the keyboard. You cannot see the letters or curser but you can once you close the keyboard. This appeard to happen more with the internet. Also on the IE home page the Menue abd favorites do not appear when the keyboard idsopen but when closed they do. Anyone else have this issue?

call them and get the address for the nearest tech facility, and take it there under warranty. They replace them on the spot if there is a problem.

I loaded up the 6.1 update on my tilt the day it was released, and I'm very happy that I did. The performance has been much better, it doesnt hang at startup, and i like the new features. I don't have any trouble with keyboard responsiveness, or it pausing for 5 seconds.

I'm guessing that there must be something that you have loaded on your tilt that is running in the background that is causing the slowness you are experiencing. You may want to look at what you have installed, and try removing things until you find the offending application.

Re: Rolling back to WM 6.0 from 6.1 (Tilt8925)

I,ve experienced the same things when I upgraded to 6.1 on my Tilt 8925.

i downloaded a copy of WM 6.0 and just followed the same process when I upgraded to 6.1

Rolling back was easy and definitely worth it for me. i rather have the ability to assigning any mp3 file as sound/ringtone over string text ANY day. i hated the sluggish and delayed text typing

As far as the ring tones go, WM6.1 will only take short MP3 or WMA files. I think anything over 500kb won't work. You can use the HTC Trimmer to shorten your rings. I use it on my tilt and works great! you can get it here:
xda-developers

Take a look at your device memory, is it getting full? Delete browser cache as often as possible.

There is a bug in WM6.1 when Clear Type is enabled. It does not work in landscape mode. Disable Clear Type and your screen will work in landscape mode:approve:
