how to turn off gprs/edge/3g

How do I disable the tilt from automatically using the AT&T data and only use wi-fi? I have access to wi-fi all day and at home so I dont want to pay for the data plan after I receive the rebate.....

I asked the same question to my local ATT store where I bought the tilt, and they said that I would have to call ATT directly. Apparently, they (reseller) cannot do this.

AT&T can disconnect the GPRS/Edge/3G data connection so you will never be able to use the feature, but there are also a couple of things you can do:

If you never want to use GPRS/Edge/3G data connection, you can delete the connection settings:

Tap Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections icon > Under the first heading, select "Manage existing connections"

Press & hold your stylus on the GPRS settings for your carrier > select Delete.

At some point in time, if you'd like to use the data connection, you can set the connection up again with minimal effort.

You can also disable the settings by creating a dummy GPRS setting. You'd do this if you want to disable the settings, but leave them intact in case you need to use a GPRS/Edge/3G connection later on.

Julie, Thanks. I'll make a dummy setting, this will prevent the phone from connecting to GPRS for all situations? I dont want AT&T turning it off as it can affect some text messages.

Yes, it works quite well, and leaves the connection settings intact in case you ever want to use the data connection.

Tried the instructions for setting up a "Dummy" setting on the Fuze, but in absence of a WiFi connection opening PIE still results in a 3G Data Connection.

Also, following this instruction set:

Tap Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections icon > Under the first heading, select "Manage existing connections"

Press & hold your stylus on the GPRS settings for your carrier > select Delete.

does NOT show a GPRS setting for AT&T - or any setting for that matter, other than the Dummy_GPRS we created....

Either am missing something, and / or AT&T has found a way around the simple solution....

A question for anyone who knows (or has the software and hardware and can find out):

Do the scripts that are included with SKTools' product SKScheMa (e.g.: GSMOff; GSMOn; ToggleGSM; RadioOff; RadioOn; BTOff; BTOn; ToggleBT; WlanOff; WlanOn; ToggleWLAN; ...) work on these devices?

I use some of them currently on my X51V running WM5 (Placed the scripts in the STARTUP folder to turn off WiFi and BT to keep them off unless I explicitly turn them on).

Just curious as I could conceivably acquire one of these converged devices at some future point in time.

TIA.

:o

OK: Looks like you need to follow the routine at least twice ( - ? - ): did it for "My Work Network," but am guessing it must also be done for "Media Net" - and Perhaps also for AT&T ISP & other options on the Select Networks / Network Management screen???

May have to break down & take a Closer Look at the Manual - on the odd chance it actually covers this topic...

all you have to do is set it to "my isp". this also lets you still get mms. Nothing will use the data plan but mms, which is what you want.

Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Connections/advanced Tab

at the top select My ISP, and that's it.
