Why The Heck Does My Tilt Keep Disconnecting???

This has been a problem on both Windows XP and Windows Vista and with both Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1. My computer is a Dell Inspiron E1505, currently running Windows Vista Ultimate with 2GB of RAM.

Sometimes, my Tilt will disconnect from my computer. The computer can no longer see the phone, however, the phone is still charging it's battery from the USB connection. I have to either disconnect and reconnect the phone to the USB connection or power cycle the phone to reestablish the connection with ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center.

The connection is a simple USB connection directly to the mini-USB port on the phone. There is no external power source so the laptop is both charging the phone and powering the USB connection. Would hooking up the phone to an external power source help the issue? I also have a SanDisk Cruzer Micro USB drive, the receiver to my Logitech laptop mouse, and a USB charging cable for my Plantronics Bluetooth headset plugged into the laptop as well, so I could certainly understand if the power demands are just too much and are contributing to the issue.

Thanks in advance.

I have experience a simular problem with my axim lately. I believe the problem is with my new work laptop. the only time that I notice this issue is when Outlook is connect to the exchange server. For some reason the USB connection seems to timeout.

Have you turned off the "Advanced Network Functionality" option? (tap Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC icon > remove checkmark next to "Advanced Network Functionality"

You can also try disabling your computer's firewall and see it that makes a difference - the firewall on my computer interferes with my ActiveSync connection, and causes disconnects all the time. Disabling the firewall makes all the difference and give me a stable, consistent connection.
