Do all PPC/Smartphones need to be locked?

I got a surprising Xmas gift of a Samsung I760 (was not expecting since I've been quite happy with my X51V. I guess my wife thought I was envious of my Son's TREO 700wx).

My question is: Do all smartphones need to use the lock function to block unwanted screen taps (while in pocket) or is the I760 missing an app that disables PPC functions while allowing all phone functions?

The phone does enable on an incoming call, however I need to unlock to initiate a call.

Also, I don't see the semi-colon on the keyboard. Am I missing it?

Finally, I don't think I need my X51V anymore, or do I?
