Worst WinMo device ever???

Got my Fuze on Friday.

Saturday morning (after charging all night) i opened it up and....waited.... and waited... after about 3 minutes it would finally respond to touches or buttons. Then it just locked up. Hard reset number one (less than 24 hours after I got phone...).

So, I get phone "running" again and in a couple hours my Start menu looks like a PC screen after the video card goes wonky. But, if I scroll up and down it clears up. Huh?

Hard reset number two, still less than 24 hours old. But, it clears up Start menu graphics.

TouchBLO3D is SOOOOOO Slow and unresponsive. By the time it reacts to the first touch I have piled up 14 more touches and it executes them all at once. Nice.

Slide out keyboard just stops working, totally unresponsive. Like right in the middle of a message.

When I turn on WiFi phone gets REALLY hot under slide out keyboard (this is usually when keyboard really gets flaky).

IT IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AT RECOGNIZING WHERE I AM TOUCHING. It is almost impossible to scroll without inadvertently opening an application that you didn't want to run. Makes no difference if I use stylus or finger, scroll buttons and bars only respond sometimes.

Opera? OMG, this is like the worst browser on the planet. IE works better on this phone but it is not the default so you are stuck with Opera when you run any of the ATT apps that use a browser. The suck.

Battery life, or lack of it. I can go from full battery to dead in about 3.5 hours. That's right, I said HOURS, not days. THREE AND ONE HALF HOURS. "Oh, but you can cycle battery 4 or 5 times and increase that by", wait for it, "TEN OR TWENTY PERCENT". Guess what, 10% of crap is still crap. Unless cycling it can improve it by about 200% you better pick up 3 batteries and have em all charged if you hope to make it through a day. Or just keep it plugged into the AC power supply. But then what's the point in having a "mobile" phone if you are tethered to the wall outlet??? I guess you could turn everything off and make it last longer but then what's the point in having built in wifi?

Camera. Um, what exactly am I supposed to take pictures of with this craptacular camera? Dead people? Under a spotlight? Whatever it is better not be moving AT ALL. It takes between 5 and 7 seconds after you push the button for it to actually snap a photo. Excuse me Mr. Soccer player, could you just balance that ball on the end of your toes for another 5 to 7 seconds so I can get a picture of it??? TOTALLY USELESS (unless you are a mortician).

Overall, I am extremely disappointed with this phone. I spent a couple months reading reviews before I decided on this phone and no one ever mentioned any of this crap in their reviews. So much for "unbiased" eh? I guess there are phone fanboys that are just blind to it's faults.

I really wanted this to be my phone for the foreseeable future. If it worked, it has everything I need. I need a phone I can work on. I refuse to buy anything with an Apple logo on it, I need tools, not fashion accessories meant to impress the guy sitting next to me on the subway.

*Sadly, my son's iPhone, a toy in my opinion, works better than my Fuze does.

What did I expect to accomplish posting this? I want you all to tell me how wrong I am (if I am). If I trade this one for another is it going to be the same? Or did I just get a lemon? I have been using WinMo devices since the old silver, oddly shaped Compaq iPaqs (1610 or 1640-something I think it was?) and it worked better, faster, and more reliably than this phone does.

I am very :(

And more than a little bit :realmad:

It really sounds like you got a lemon. From what I've read HTC makes excellent equipment. You might want to exchange it for another unit before you throw the baby out with the bathwater.

As for a battery life of 3.5 hours with WiFi on - yeah, that's the deal. WiFi is a power hog. However if the Fuze is a phone, why not just get a data plan and use the cell network? My Moto-Q battery life is excellent even with a lot of web browsing and e-mail exchange. Yeah, heavy use takes some power but it's not bad - and I've got chargers all over the place since we use Motorola phones.

Swap it. You'll probably be OK. If not ... then I guess you'll need to try something else.

I agree with CodeBubba...you got a bum pocket pc. Exchange it for a new fuze and, hopefully, you'll have a much better experience with the device.

OK. Just picked up Fuze #2. Guy at store looked at me like I was crazy until I showed him the pics I took of the screen all messed up and let him hold it while the wifi was on (so he could feel how hot it got).

So far, this one seems much faster and more responsive.

Hopin' the first was just bad, I really want this thing to work.

You have 30 days to return the phone to AT&T.

I don't think that quality-control problems are at-all unusual with these devices, particularly the more complex they get. It took 3 of the Moto-Q 9c units from Verizon to get one that didn't have anything wrong with it. The first one had a sticky keypad "stop" button ... the 2nd one had a bad keyboard altogether which caused it to crash all the time. This one, though, seems solid as a rock. So good, in fact, that I've set my regular PPC aside and put it up for sale. I prefer having just one device. But that's another story.

Hope your 2nd unit works out.

I absolutely LOVE my Fuze and I am a power user... I flash ROMS, use beta software, and do my best to push it to its limits. I have to say this is the best device I have EVER used.

It is not unheard of to get a bad unit from any manufacturer, a simple exchange should solve that issue

Fuze #2, Day two, first morning and so far, so good.

It was not hung up, locked or unresponsive when I took it off charger this morning and it really does seem to work better than the first one.

It gets a little warm with WiFi on but not >HOT< like the other one (and I used it quite a bit). Keyboard has not quit working at all and it seems to be much more responsive.

:)
