New Fuze ROM

The HTC link is live again - or it was yesterday:

Just flashed to the new ROM yesterday.
I have noticed things that I like:
1. From powerup the Fuze gets to the main TF3D screen in about half the time of the original ROM.
2. The FM Radio is a very nice little app. I was surprised at how good the stations in range sounded.
3. I like the slide-to-answer feature of the dialer.
4. I would say that the entire operating system is just a bit snappier than before.
5. Voice command seems to be more responsive.
6. Bluetooth connection and handsfree interaction seems a lot better.
7. Wifi connects very quickly - and so far the unit has synced very quickly with Exchange each time - so quickly that I thought it didn’t work!
8. The camera seems more responsive. Does anyone know if that got tweaked in this ROM? Maybe it is just because of overall system performance.
9. Easy remapping of the Push to Talk button.

Golly, I had forgotten how much I had tweaked this. I am cautiously reinitiating different tweaks - but the first thing I absolutely HAD to do was get the Fuzeberry skin back on. That ATT gray interface really SUCKS!!

Drat! I keep missing that ROM post. Though I heard through the grapevine that there were some discovered bugs in that version that was posted yesterday.

BTW, what came of your contest win? Did the site owner finally contact you?

The site owner never contacted me. But the unit arrived as expected in that mass shipping!
Nice phone!

I haven't found any bugs with the new ROM. What did you hear?

If you check the comments on Fuzemobility, a number of folks posted the download on mirror sites.
I AM curious as to why the link is down. Makes me nervous about the ROM. However, it wasn't that hard to do - just a pain to restore my tweaks. It IS worth doing.

Have you had a chance to play around with the GPS? Any noticeable improvements there? I've discovered that the GPS on my Fuze is sluggish - seems to fall asleep when it should be active and is often "late" - it tells me to turn long after I have turned.

Thanks for posting! I've been wondering if the new ROM had been put back on the website. I guess it was and now it's gone missing again?

I haven't done anything with the GPS. Will check it out - have heard that it is improved.
The most that I will probably be able to tell you is how quickly it gets a fix, since I use a standalone GPS for regular driving directions.

Yeah -- it looks like the ROM page is going up and down.

I saw that the ROM is supposed to address the time to get a GPS fix - that's not been a problem for me with the Fuze, but I had hoped that it might also fix the sluggishness of it. I guess I'll just have to give it a try later on when the ROM has settled down.

I don't use GPS much since I usually know how to get where I'm going, but recently on a car trip with my spouse, I pulled out the GPS. My spouse looks askance at my obsession with mobile technology and is quite skeptical about the usefulness of my techno gadgets, so I try to show how cool and convenient this stuff is when I get a chance. Well, the lagginess of the Fuze's GPS did not leave much of an impression with him (and it embarrassed me). Oh well. I guess as long as he's not that interested in my gadgets I never have to worry with him stealing them - leaves more for me to play with.

I used the GPS once with Windows Live when I got turned around walking around Baltimore -- and it helped a lot!
Looks like the link to the ROM is up again.

Okay, I am downloading the Fuze ROM right now. I will probably install it sometime over the weekend.

On HTC's site for the Touch Pro generic, there were links to hotfixes for the GPS. I'm downloading the Fuze ROM that HTC put up (apparently this afternoon...there was nothing this morning) here, which I presume has the hotfixes already in it, since there are now a bevy of carrier-specific Touch Pro links whereas this morning there was only the generic Touch Pro link as I mentioned.

@webbahboy: I'm finding I really like the smartphone OS, much more so than I originally thought I would. However, I find the Pantech easier to use with the dialpad out, buttons are more conveniently located closer to my thumb than when in the closed position. Now I just need to find a case and a screen protector.

@Julie: If you want to just try the GPS hotfix for the moment, you can find HTC's official patch here.

I have found that most of my GPS issues went away when flashing a newer radio.

I'll look into this ROM some, but I really like some of the tweaked out but lite 6.5 ROMs... MobileShell beats the crap out of TF3d regardless

BTW... I have written a fairly useful app for backing up and restoring the configs of individual apps... not a whole ROM.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I haven't installed the ROM update yet. :o I got busy with other things and never got around to it. I'll let you know once I've got it installed!

I've ran the updated ROM for about a week but WM6.5 has all of my love at the moment. Currently back on NRGZ28's Titanium ROM.
