Replace TMO ROM?
I've heard rumors of people doing a hard reset on their TMO MDA, then somehow stopping the reload of the entire TMO ROM. Supposedly they can then load only specific programs, saving lots of room on their MDA/Wizard.

Has anyone done this, and do you have a process for it? I don't want to lose ALL the TMO stuff, because I like the email setup feature (it's easy), but I don't need the Hotspot signon crap and most of the other defaults. Has anyone else seen a thread that details this?

Thanks!

It would be great if we were even able to reloate some of that crap to the miniSD card or even delete it. Still worth looking into as a possiblity. I do have a Hot Spot account tho, so I don't want to kill that, but there are a few other that I would not mind being gone.

I just did this myself on my UK T-Mobile device. I did the hard reset (press the reset in whilst holding the comms button (top left) and voiceprompt (top right). The device asks if you want to revert to factory settings. Press the green call answer key to accept. When it resets it will ask you to do the screen orientation tapping, ask for your region and then the tap and hold cut and paste demo. Once you've hit finish on this, press the reset on the side again with the stylus and this will stop the extended ROM installing.

Be warned though that if you do this, you may have to manually input all the settings for GPRS, SMS, MMS etc.

Hope this helps!

Is there a list somewhere that shows the CAB's used for the Ext. ROM install and their functions? Recommendations on which ones to load? I assume you find the CAB's on the install CD, xfer them to the PDA, then run them. Right?

Check out the MDA thread over at www.howardforums.com, you can also check out new www.xda-developers.com. I unlocked my MDA and installed ROM 2.21 already. I like it since it got rid of a lot of junk that tmo had installed.
