ActiveSync and WMP- Problems?
I have a T-Mobile SDA (US) and a Cingular 2125 (yeah, I know, but one's for work and one's mine, LOL!) and they both have the same "problem" with Windows Media Player 10.

Whenever I select the option in ActiveSync to synchronize with Windows Media Player 10, it asks me if I would like to create a partnership, which I always select. But then nothing happens! But when I go into WMP 10 directly, I can setup and synchronize fine, even though it shows up in ActiveSync as "setup needs to be completed"

Has anyone else seen this problem? If so, does anyone have a way for me to resolve it?

Thanks!

I'm sure it is quicker, but that should not keep the conduit from working properly in ActiveSync.

I'm surprised that no one else hasn't replied to this; I can't believe that this problem is an anomaly particular to myself. Then again, maybe it is, I don't know.

Transferring music directly to a storage card is much faster, but I don't think this will work for music that is downloaded from the web - I think the only way the licensing info is transferred to the PDA (so you can play the music) is if you synch via ActiveSync.

I haven't heard any other user report this problem, so maybe you are an anomaly....You could try downloading and installing Windows Media Player 11 to your PC - I recently read a thread somewhere from someone who reported that a problem they were having with synching music to their PDA was resolved by installing this software to their computer. I have not had any problems synching music to my PDA, but I have installed Windows Media Player 11 to my computer and I like it.

But that's just it; it actually syncs fine if I do it from within Windows Media Player 10. It's only when I try to do it from ActiveSync itself that it shows that message that you see in the screenshot I've posted; I can't figure it out. Everyone keeps telling me either to upgrade to WMP 11 or to do what you've said, but that doesn't change the fact that it SHOULD work from the conduit the way it should.

Oh well, I use my iPOD for music anyway, I just wanted to use it to sync movies and video clips. Perhaps I'll just leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the reply.

What version of AS are you using? You should be using AS 4.1, but you could try installing the AS 4.2 beta:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ivesync42.mspx

In what order did you load AS and WMP? (AS first, then WMP or WMP first, then AS) - The proper order should be WMP first, then AS. (The Setup program for ActiveSync 4.x installs updates for Windows Media Player 10. If Windows Media Player 10 is not installed, the Setup program does not install the updates).

The synching between these two packages is so closely intertwined that it is hard to know if this is a problem with ActiveSync or a problem with WMP.

I'm using ActiveSync v4.1, and I seriously doubt that v4.2 would change anything here.

As for the order, WMP was installed first.

After talking with the product managers over as MS, I'm convinced that, anomaly or no, this is one problem that --while relatively insignificant-- won't be resolved anytime soon.

No problems though. Thanks for the reply.

Don't create a partnership w/ your phone...just make it a guest within ActiveSync and it should work. Albeit the card reader is MUCH faster (as suggested) but if your music is DRM encrypted then I suppose that maybe still syncing your phone as a guest should still work. I recommend using MP3's as they are the easiest format to utilize if this is at all possible for you.
