Sprint PPC 6700 activesync 4.1 problem

I am trying to update activesync 4.0 to 4.1, as I am having connection issues with 4.0 (sometimes it will not see the pda is in the cradle, and thus will not sync). Whenever I run the setup, all goes well untill is says "Updating USB drivers" then it locks. I have tried to re-run the setup, in which it detects the 4.1 install, and offers to repair it, or remove it. Either option locks up. Any thoughts?

Can you uninstall the current Axim drivers be deleting the device under Windows Device Manager?
