Not Even Born Yet
You Folks seem like a great group of helpful people. I am to be blessed with a new Axim tomorrow (UPS don't fail me now). You gotta understand this, my last PDA was a Handspring 2 years ago, and "This site is scaring me!" I feel like a newborn baby. Is there anything I should know upfront to avoid problems with this new machine. I am a pharmacist and plan to use it in a hospital setting. Every one has got to start somewhere right? I have been looking at some of the posts here and they are somewhat helpful but it is like crawling on the surface of Saturn in a MiniVan, I need some beam me up Scotty. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Data Security Concerns
Will you store any patient-related information ? If so, I would be carefull about the traditional CIA-properties of information security.
Confidentiality - Patient data are confidential; protect them likewise on your PDA ("disk" encryption en decent authentication)
Integrity - I suppose you know better than I do that information integrity is key in your position. Probably the hospital you're working with will have controls in place to ensure that the data manipulation and usage minimize misinterpretations. Be carefull not to circumvent these controls.
Availability - Take regular backups
Besides the Confidentiality issues, Most issues apply anyway ;)
I have no partiular experience with your particular situation, but since I am professionally involved with infosec ...

Well SkyeHunter, we have a wireless environment in the hospital which allows access to an intranet and then access to the internet. Patient confidentiality is pretty strict but I will not be dealing with any of that data. The wireless signal is encrypted and you have to have a code to use it. I still need to get that from my supervisor. Mostly I want to use the device to store books, lots of them, and have access to online programs like Micromedix to answer doctors questions. My PC works well in the office but I am in an emergency room (100 beds) and have to walk around alot. This will be my peripheral brain so to speak and I have a lot of respect for those of you who can make a tool out of a PDA.

Sad part is when you get it you will have to wait another 8 hours to charge it!! I know, it sucks. But, most people agree to leave it on the charger for the 8 hours. I would also say most people agree you can play with it in the charger during that 8 hours.
Just trying to be proactive! Good Luck~

Adam, you are right. I am so sad. Why don't those nice folks at Dell charge the battery before they send it to you? It will be like having to wait till noon to open your Christmas presents. Pure torture. By the way thanks for the turtorial links, I read a few and will read some more.
