Hi all,
Just though I'd say hello for my first post.
I've been a loyal Palm user for many years now. I've grown through Handsprings, Palm Pilots, the Palm VII, and my most enjoyed and beloved color Sony Clie's. I love the Palm's because of the stability, ease of use and great battery life.
But things change and I've seen the increased uses for the Mobile Windows platform change to outweigh the Palm based units. So here I sit with a brand new Dell Axim x50V with the included GPS package. My second go at a Windows based PDA. My first unit was a Cassiopia gray-scale that I still have in the box, barely used.
So far I'm pretty happy with the Dell overall. I like the fact that I can sit anywhere in my house, pick it up and check my e-mail wirelessly without having to bootup a laptop and wait for it to start. The features are good and I've installed minimal software at this point like magic button, TCPMP, Resco Suite and Pocket NES. I keep it safe in a Rhino.Skin aluminum case and have a 2GB CF and 512MB SD complimeting it. I've done the fake server modification because I was experiencing some issues but most have them seem to have been eliminated after that change on my ROM A06 unit.
I carry a Nextel i930 Smartphone that runs WM2003 so the interface is pretty familiar to me and it's pretty neat to see the two interact with each other via IR. I've used the GPS on a recent trip this past weekend for a 200 mile trek and it worked flawlessly both ways, recalculating as needed. The only thing it didn't do was tell me to "stay on the road stupid because I'm tired of recalculating" because I kep driving off course for other interests. Of course it told me I was driving over the speed limit each time I did it (note to self: disable speed alerts).
Overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase and look foward to using it to it's potential. So in comes another Bill Gates driven product and out goes another competitors product. I'll still use my Palm for certain things, but I'm sure the Dell will take over the daily chores.
If only Apple could have marketed and kept alive the Newton's like they did the iPod. The world would probably be a different place today, Palm Pilots and Newtons, could you imagine?
Great to be here. I look forward to your conversations and advice.
I'm another ex palm user.... and yes. I'd love to see what Apple's creative types could do with the pda format

I agreed with you. I use an Axim X50 right now, but I have a Newton MessagePad 2000  yet. And I find that it's write recognition is amazing, much better than the Axim.
Welcome to the Pocket PC World !! :)
Hi all,
Just though I'd say hello for my first post. <snip> ...
Welcome aboard. Yeah ... the Windows CE platform has gone through quite a bit of change. I, also, was a Palm user for a little while until I first discovered Win CE. That first grayscale PPC of mine went away when I first saw the color units (Casio E-100). My Ax has been the best of the bunch so far.
Just sit right back
And you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from Palm based software
And ended with an Axim flip...
(to the tune of Gilligan's Island)
Welcome to the party!:yeah:
