Never mind, I'm going to send the BC337 back on Monday, and replace it with the BT338 (unless anyone has any strong alternative recommendations!).

Hope you're enjoying your Axim. I also ordered the 1gb SD from 7dayshop, what a crazy price! They'll be giving them away in boxes of cornflakes soon... I've also got a 4gb Hitachi microdrive (I have two, for use with my digi SLR), which is being used to store all the d/l'ed games on!

We're going to be looking around the Helston/Lizard/Penzance region to move to - the further south the better, really.
Hi Nobby,

What has amazed me has been the quality of the screen - so clear and bright. My only problem so far has being trying to install a (cheap) screen protector, it's full of bubbles, still I suppose you gets what you pay for and I've got 5 more to try and perfect my technique, btw does anyone know if the more expensive type are thicker? It doesn't seem to affect the usage of the stylus, just looks naf!
Hope u get your GPS sorted, I'll give a progress report when I get mine.

Another one from Cornwall here - Wadebridge on the North Coast. I ordered my Axim on Thursday (only 20% discount now) and have to wait a very long 2 weeks for it to arrive! Part of my decision to go with this PDA rather than the HP was all the wonderful information & support available on this site.

Hi everyone! Great to see there is a thriving community of GB owners here. I'm still getting familiar with the workings of Windows mobile... I'd really like to get a programme like eXPerience installed on the Axim, so it looks and functions as close as possible to an XP UI, but at the moment it doesn't look like anyone's done one to work with this new OS.

I've also got a slight problem, that my 4Gb Microdrive seems to be stuck fast in the Axim! It's got a shiny coated paper label, and try as I might I can't get a purchase on it to pull it out! I may have to resort to needle-nose pliers! So, prepare for a post shortly where I report I've destroyed either the Axim, the CF card... or both!

grom-it, thanks for the offer - if the Axim crashes and we get lost, I might have to call you! :)

Hi W.I.P. If we hadn't made the decision to stay in the UK and head to the wild south-west, we were seriously considering Canada - I'd started the process of looking into whether I would qualify to do so...

Hi Nobby & all other Kernow types

There certainly seems to be a lot of x51v's enjoying the sun down here (wot sun!).
Things are still going well with my new toy. Only problem I've had is reading WMV files which I copied to a cf card. After viewing them in WMP10 the PPC became unstable and I couldn't switch on without a soft reset. I applied the "fake server " trick and all is well!
btw I'm typing this on the PPC and using my wireless router the wireless system has worked really well from the off. However, when I tried to access a video file on-line all I got was page after page of code, as far as I am aware it was a WMV file, any ideas.

I have a problem with the WiFi one though (at least, I think I have!) - I've installed it as directed, but the original standard 4 bar indicator is still present, and overlays the new icon so its not really visible unless the WiFi connection is turned off! Any advice as to what I've missed or need to do?

Hi all!

I found my wireless network at home works great, too. Haven't tried any video watching yet, so afraid I can't help - with a 50" plasma in the lounge to watch movies on, the 3.7" option isn't all that appealing... :)

I found I had to apply the "fake server" trick too - first day with the Axim in the office, intending to use it in a meeting for notes, I found it had locked up! Cue a very concerned me, and much merriment from my colleagues who decided I'd purchased a(nother) useless gadget... I was very relieved when it came back to life on swapping batteries, and even moreso when I found the tip about the Autosync bug on the forums a little later and that fixed it.

Hi Annamaria, the 50" plasma is at home in the lounge, not at work! In fact, the only plasma in the lounge at work is my old 42" one that broke, and I bought it in here to see if any of the guys could fix it! But we do have a wide range of screens, flatscreens and large TVs here at the office - we develop videogames and we have to test them on a variety of tellys. Haven't quite got round to justifying a 50" yet - but I'm sure it's only a matter of time... :)

Hi Astroman,

Got your GPS up and running yet?

I got a pack of 12 cheap screen protectors from GPSForLess. My first and second attempts were bubbly disasters, so on the third go I carefully exposed just one short edge, positioned it on the bottom of the screen, then used the credit card-sized card supplied with the protectors to 'iron' the film into place. Using firm, even pressure and short movements to gradually transfer it from its backing sheet to the screen, I was able to achieve a completely bubble-free application. Woo!

I also received the replacement Bluetooth GPS receiver the day before yesterday, and it installed first time and works brilliantly. Very impressed with its accuracy, and with how easy tomtom is to use too. I'm now completely satisfied with my Axim - I've got all the bits I need, and it's doing everything I want it too. The only other thing I'd like to look into is a GPS app that is based on terrain maps, rather than just road info. But that's for some time in the future, when we move and I start exploring more on foot or by mountain bike.

Hi Nobby,
Waiting with bated breath for my Axim to arrive (same config as yours, incl BT-338, TT5) and am glad to know you are enjoying it. Just wondered how you went about installing the GPS and TT. Is is self explanatory (for technically challenged dummies like me ) or is there a thread which explains it?
