Worried Hello Everyone!

I am new to this site and I hope I can learn some things. Specifically, I am trying to synchronize Outlook 2003 on my work pc with my home pc. I am interested in a one-way synchronization process where files are copied from a primary location (source) to a secondary location (target) in one direction, but no files are ever copied back to the primary location. I have no idea how to initiate this process or what type of software is needed. I have never attempted such a task so any help will be greatly appreciated and please keep it simple as I am a newbie! Thanks!

Hi samtotheleft and welcome to Mobilitysite.

To transfer Outlook files from one PC to another use the export feature. Select File>Import and Export and select "Export to a file". Then, just follow the steps to create a .pst file. Copy that file to your other PC and open it up on your other PC's Outlook.

Thanks so much for responding kcallahan; the process sounds easy enough so I'll give it a shot. I was considering synchronization software and I'm glad I didn't make a purchase!

Unfortunately the transfer doesn't allow for email updates (incoming. outgoing, deletions, etc).

How you do it depends on a few variables.
What sort of email are you using with outlook?
Do you just want everything on your Work PC to appear on your Home PC, or do you want to be able to send and receive from both and have them both updated?
Is the Work PC on a company server?
Do you want to keep your home PC Email separate from the work one?
Are you trying to do this with any sort of PPC?

If your Work PC is set up as an exchange server then you can get the settings from your IT people so that your Home PC automatically syncs with the work PC.

If you are using a single Work PC with a POP account then you need to set the Home PC to use the same account.

Or if you have a PPC you can use ActiveSync to sync between the two, with the Work PC overwriting the Home PC.

Some details of what you have and what you want to do would make it easier to answer your questions.

My work PC is on a company server (Godaddy). Ideally, I would like to access my entire Outlook 2003 program, with the capabilities to send and receive from both locations, and have them both update. Also, I do want to keep your home PC Email separate from work. Also I am not trying to do this with any sort of PPC, and I am using a single Work PC with a POP3 account.

Interestingly, I entered my POP3 account information into Outlook Express and my Outlook 2003 email account from work popped right up. Is there a way to configure Outlook Express to run independently of Outlook 2003? That would solve all my problems. I hope these details offer the insight that is needed.

Many Thanks; I appreciated the help!

If I'm understanding correctly,

If you configure your Home PC with the Work Pop3 info in Outlook, and your private email info in Outlook Express you should be good to go.
