ActiveSync McAfee Netsky

Everytime I activesync my Dell AXIM with My Win XP Pro desktop, I get an warning from McAfee Viruse Scan Asap antivirus on my PC that I have a NETSKY virus on my handheld. I move the spam or mass mailed infected email to a local pst and delete it. Even when the infected attachment has been deleted, I get a virus warning on my PC during sync'ing. I have updated dat's and scan the PC regularrly, there are never viruses.

Here is the mcAfee message.

Source: C:\DOCUME~1\admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\ActiveSync\details _info.zip
Click for more information about this virus : W32.Netsky.P@mm

This is a pop email account. I use Outlook 2003.

THe only solution is to tha works is to unselect - sync'ing the aatachments, manually scan for suspicious emails attachments, delete them and than resync with attachments.

Why did you post that in here?

anyway go to www.symantec.com and run a search for it. Download the removal tool (if there is one)

Run it, and viola! No more virus!

Hello, Barryo. I came across your post while searching for a solution on the Web. Here's the reason why I (and probably you) would get those virus notifications when synchronizing my Pokcet PC.

Some times you may receive an email with a virus attached to it, some times zipped. When you delete that email, and later on synchronize your Pocket PC, that deleted email is probably being copied into your Pocket PC. This part of the process is not caught by Norton Antivirus. However, the next time you synchronize, Norton detects the virus and displays the message saying it has deleted the affected file. THIS IS ONLY ON THE PC SIDE. The infected file is still on the deleted items folder in your Pocket PC. So everytime you synchronize, the PC tries to synchronize that file again. Solution: empty your deleted items both on your PC and Pocket PC.

Hope this helps. :)
