It seems that I am going to have to hard reset my HP 1930 to try and get my PC to recognize it (my last thread).
I don't know if I still have the CD that came with the unit. Will the unit be able to sync to my PC (if it is recognized) based on whatever programs are hardwired into its system? If not, how do I get activesync onto a brand new machine if it won't sync without it?
The only thing you'd need to CD for would be to reinstall Outlook to your computer or ActiveSync to your computer. The CD may have included a few free and demo applications for the pocket pc, but there is nothing on the CD you'd need to get your pocket pc running again.

What have you done in the past to try to resolve this issue? Generally, things to do include:
Delete partnership and set up new partnership
Reboot computer
Uninstall ActiveSync on the computer and reinstall ActiveSync
Hard reset pocket pc
Test on another computer to see if you are able to sync
Try a different sync cable.

Thank you. I did every single one of the things on your list. The last was the hard reset because it is the most drastic but my device is still not being recognized.
When you tested on another computer, were you able to sync?

If you tried Julie's last two suggestions (test on a different computer using a different sync cable), then your problem is either your cradle itself, or your iPAQ.
You may wish to inspect the connector on the cradle and the receiving port on the iPAQ to make sure there are no bent connector pins...
What version of Windows are you running?
What version of ActiveSync are you using?
Can you verify that the hard reset really performed a full reset of the pocket pc? (all your personal data should be gone)

It's sounding like it could be a hardware issue like what Elrendhel elluded to. But you could try this:
On your computer open up Control Panal, select System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button > locate the device and delete it (you may see a big yellow mark next to it).
Reinstall ActiveSync. Then Open ActiveSync, ActiveSync should direct you to plug in the cradle, turn on IPAQ, insert IPAQ into cradle, etc. Hopefully the wizard will walk you through setting up a partnership and everything will work.
If that doesn't work, then you've probably got a hardware issue. Did you examine the USB connector? You could try syncing via infrared or Bluetooth if your computer can handle those methods (you could purchase an infrared or Bluetooth dongle if the computer doesn't not have this capability).

I can't delete the device because it is not recognized. The best I get in the Device Manager is "Unrecognized Device".
The pins seem to be OK, although I am no expert. I use a hot-sync cable and it is charging the PDA so I assume there is connectivity, although that might not need all of the pins.
I guess I'm in the market for a new PDA. Any suggestions? I was very happy with my 1930 and I will miss it.

It is the unrecognized device that you need to delete!
I think you are resigning yourself to a new pocket pc too early! Unless, you have been wanting to replace the pocket pc with a new one and this is as good a reason as any to do it!

I would much rather keep the one that I have than buy a new one.
I deleted the unrecognized device and deleted activesync. I then reinstalled activesync.
When I connected the PDA, for a moment I got a message "Found New Hardware" but then the message disappeared and was replaced by "USB Device not Recognized"
