It's not surprising. A good PDA like the HX4700 is much more than a travel companion or PIM. It's also the best ebook reader you can buy, a video player for night time as you are falling asleep, etc etc. I can't imagine living without it.

so since you were considering the Flame, why not just jump in one of the HTC advantage - it carries everything you need I believe...

Remember not so long ago, when Dell finaly announced the death of the Axim line? Sounded like the end of the world in here And when the hx4700 was proclaimed, the end of the line, for iPAQ Flagships, it allso sounded like Doomsday

Now it seems like HP has been reading in, on the cry's and whining, on this forum, and has caved in, to reinvent the "top of line + best of all things" PPC, by merging the two topnoch machines, and added WM6

Ever since I bought my iPAQ h2210/2215 I've been on the lookout for the best replacement, and every time I thought. "Yes THIS is IT!", something came up, telling me, it was not the perfect sollution. For the hx4700 it was the touchpad, for the x50/51v it was the strange looks in landscape mode, and for the XDA Flame, it was the lack of WM6 upgrade.

Now this device comes up, and I'm all over it, for the time being, holding my breath, until the first tests have been run, and some user feedback tells me, why this iPAQ is not the final, and ultimate PPC

On the other hand, my trusty Oooold h2210 is getting a litle (ab)used, to look at, and it's about the age, where the battery will die, so maybe I will be forced to make up my mind, anny time soon And for that, the 210 is looking like the best of all evils

Demands:
WM6: Man have I been waiting for native support for HTML Mail
CF Slot: Must!! My camera uses CF cards, and I need the photo editing on the go + All the gizmos for CF I have.
Powerfull CPU: Photo editing.
WiFi: Can you live without it today?
VGA: Photo..........
Big battery: Who wants a wimpy 900mAh?
Big 3,5"+ screen: My eyes are getting older too :rolling:

Would like:
VGA Out: Powerpoint
GPRS: On the go Internet, where WiFi is not available.

Am I too demanding? I think not :headshake
They have showed us, it's possible to make it, so why don't they?
I want it all, and I want it NOW! :soap:

Only 64MB RAM

I just got the brochure for the iPAQ 212. It says "64MB SDRAM main memory for running applications; 256MB ROM"

But for a PDA-only device, does it really need 128? I've heard from friends that PDA phones with 64MB will crawl and crash, but should be sufficient for pure PDAs.

RAM: 128MB for running applications
Display: 4-inch VGA TFT with touch screen, portrait oriented..."

But according to the PDF http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/pr...ds_ipaq200.pdf and on the sales website Buy HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise Handheld(FB041AA#ABA), HP iPAQ Pocket PCs, HP handhelds and calculators, Handhelds direct from the HP Home & Home Office Store the RAM is only 64MB for running programs and not 128MB.

HP 212 Specifications

Here's a screen cap of the 212's brochure (or rather just the specs page). The whole PDF is about 1MB, so I can't upload it. I've also got brochures for the other iPAQs (112, 212, 612, 912) but they're all that size.

Cheers.

Sitting here in the hospital with my venerable 4700, did a random visit to hp.com and saw the Enterprise....finally a standalone handheld....and to think I was almost to the point where I thought I would have to accept a phone/pda combo.
How old is my 4700-truly can't remember but its been with me every single day since I purchased it....when kayaking in a drybag and drybox, when hiking the same...a constant companion. My only complaint was that when surfing to yahoo to read yahoo mail I could never reply. I never 'modded' it, just installed the software I use for pharmacokinetics here at work, my Spanish flashcards, and basically store(d) my whole life in it. I'm thankful HP is giving us another better 4700!

What kind of receipt? You mean the email receipt? Mine shows it would be shipped on 10/01

I called the customer service and they told me mine will be shipped on 10/12 also, but the sales representatives all say November or December but definitely not October

And basically sales representatives and customer services are having different information about their new ipaqs -- while sales representatives seemed to be more confident about the unavailability of the products, sigh...
