Does anyone know if there is actually anything that uses the audio out on the 24-pin connector, like a headset.

The hardware lets you switch the output to either the headphone jack or the output on the 24-pin but windows just has it selected to the jack. I thought there might be something on the 24-pin of the headset that windows would detect and switch to the 24-pin out but the code in windows appears to only be able to switch to the jack and not the other way (the setting is very hard coded it seems).

I have made linux automatically switch to the 24-pin out when a headphone is not inserted into the jack and in windows I currently have to use a special peice of code to force the hardware over, behind window's back.

Any ideas anyone?

About the pictures

First of all the mentioned connector is not the right connector, but with some "cut & paste" it fills perfectly as you can see in the attached images.
After modifing the connector, I've cutted a USB cable and soldered as follows:

red wire = +5VCC --> pin 5
green wire = D+ --> pin 6
white wire = D- --> pin 7
black wire = GND --> pin 8

Once the cable is connected to the PDA...
USB keyboard -> nothing happens.
USB pendrive -> nothing happens.
...
What's wrong?
First of all i think you got the order wrong. You counted the pins from right to left, and they should be left no. 1 to right no 24.
I realised this after seeing other pictures of modified adapters. I am also trying to make a cable from this connector ( Hirose ). I cut the exces plastic, centered the pins from the plug with the pins in the PDA, same Pitch ( spacing between pins), measured the GND from usb ( the female plug i connected to the host pins) to see if it has the same circuit with the mini usb female plug from PDA ( and they do).
But still i have no power and nothing happens when i plug a flash-pen.
I think there is no power between pin no.5 and pin no.9. Is there an extra setting or should i upgrade my firmware? Is there another connection i should solder to have power on pin 5?

Thank you

What part number is the Hirose connector that you're using? Does it fit well into the unit's 24 pin port?
