Thanks! That's complicated. Is that standard for every iPaq's 24 pin connector?

Thanks for listening.

I looks like the 24 pin connector is Hirose p/n ST40X-24S-CV1(80)

http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e24100015.pdf

Digikey (Digi-Key Corporation - USA Home Page) caries it under p/n H10354-ND

The Hirose ST series looks to be used in iPhone and Zune as well.

Just to add some piece of (probably) useless info, it looks like the whatevernumber-pins connector for the ipod is exactly the same but larger, I was at this low-cost chinese-manufactured-products dealer in Rome, and saw a charging set for ipod, with car-plug and power-outlet-plug with female usb port, and usb-to-ipod extensi-cable, and I went with my 214 real close to the blister, the form was exactly the same of the 24pin connector, just larger.
Dam if I would've been happy to find out it was the same size.

Does anybody know what is the ID_OTG?

I assume it is used to activate the OTG function but how do I use it? Is it a resistor to GND or something else?

Thank you for your attention,
Radu

What's wrong?

After reading this thread I've decided to follow the instructions...
I've ordered the connector from Digikey, soldered the wires... but it seems not work!
First of all the mentioned connector is not the right connector, but with some "cut & paste" it fills perfectly as you can see in the attached images.
After modifing the connector, I've cutted a USB cable and soldered as follows:

red wire = +5VCC --> pin 5
green wire = D+ --> pin 6
white wire = D- --> pin 7
black wire = GND --> pin 8

Once the cable is connected to the PDA...
USB keyboard -> nothing happens.
USB pendrive -> nothing happens.
...
What's wrong?

The 24 pin Hirose p/n ST40X-24S-CV1(80) connector is not right. I ordered 2 and tried but they lack two key ways and therefore do not seat into the ipaq 210. Attempting to plug the connector without the two surrounding metal parts does not align the contacts, hence a failed connection. I agree with the reply of Scoril0 that the ipod connector is similar but bigger (30 pins - the Ipaq 210 is 24). I'm hunting that down but in the meantime I have made a working portable hard drive of 40 GB for the Ipaq 210 using the built in host. Read all about it by typing in your search as "Ipaq 210" "direct hard drive" in the Brighthand forum. I can now carry my whole song collection and much more. Email for details @etek@embarqmail.com

Source of 24-pin connectors.

Has anyone managed to find a good source of the iPAQ 21x 24-pin connectors yet?

There is a company called Etech-City which sell what looks like a cheap knock-off (ETECH-CITY wholesale and export Car Holder Accessories for IPOD PDA Mobile Phone Case Stylus at factory offers). I have contacted them and if I can find a source of the connector but need to buy in bulk I may buy some and resell on ebay or somewhere. Would there be interest in this?
