Does anyone know if that notch on the lower back of the unit (same side as record button) can be used to attach a lanyard or wrist strap? It looks like it's possible, but I haven't pried off the battery cover again to confirm. Anyways, I have this crazy idea that in lieu of a case, I'll just tether my 210 to a retractable lanyard or hang it around my neck. Hey, if it never hits the ground, no need for a case :).
It's definitely a lanyard loop. I used an extra lanyard that I got from pogoelectronics.com a while back. It fits fine, and the metal bar in the 211 that it goes around is sturdy. In addition, you can use it while your 211 is in the leather slip case. It's not listed as a separate item on pogoelectronics' website, but you can ask for one for a "radioyourway" by email. They may not know what a lanyard is, they call it a "necklace" I believe. It has a very thin but very strong nylon cord that loops around a metal bar inside the 211, then has a male clip that attaches to a female clip that includes a looped nylon strap that's about a foot long. It was for under $10 with shipping a few years ago.
out of curiosity, did u end up hanging it around your neck? :)
Yes. Don't laugh, but I find the lanyard to work really well while grocery shopping. I don't have to worry about accidentally dropping the PDA, and there's no faster way to get it out. I do the same thing with my Garmin ETrex GPS. Of course, when I'm not shopping, the IPaq goes in my stock case modded with a belt loop. I'll let you guys know if I end up seeing a chiropractor...
Adding my experience to the list. I noticed the lanyard holder quite some time ago, but never really dared/cared to use it, yet your little discussiion here made me try it, so I took out of a drawer a black wrist-lanyard which belonged to a WAAAY old cellphone... and I found myself using it with ease, pretty much as I easily wrap the lanyard of my coolpix around my wrist every time I take it out of its pouch. You feel safer, and you can actually use your hand to hold/do things while the device happily hangs from the wrist without bothering you nor risking to hit the ground.
