Hi all
I just bought a 214 (UK version). I am kind of new to all pda stuff. I have an old 1910 which never used properly, simply because I lost my data a few times.
A few questions..
1) I am better to get a SD card or a CF card for storage (photo, books, file, mvies...)
2) Are the files stored in my document folder in presistant memory (in hp 1910, I lost the data if pda was left home for more than 2 weeks or so)
Many thanks
S.N

Welcome to Aximsite readytogo,

I personally have both a 16gb cf and a 16gb class 6 sdhc card.

The CF card seems to add an additional 3-4% per hour battery drain to my device even when it is "off". This does not seem to happen when the device contains only my SD card. ( keep in mind some users have reported a drain when used with an SD card only. ).

Keeping that in mind i would recommend you go with a SDHC class 4 or 6 SD card.

The memory within the iPAQ 210 is flash, so it will not lose its content even if the battery runs down. It does contain 2 different sections you can store programs and data into. The iPAQ filestore and normal device storage. The filestore is a persistent memory section. What this mean is that any data located within it will not be erased when a HARD reset is performed. ( re-format to factory settings ) This can be quite useful if the device is no longer able to boot up due to software conflicts and etc, you can re-format the machine and still have access to important data you store within the filestore without restoring a backup.

I personally use my CF for programs and music and the SD for movies.

Hope this helps.

Good words from Techieguy. One further note on the difference between storage memory and filestore. Storage memory is much faster, so you only want to put stuff that you'll want right after a hard reset and critical data in the filestore.

I personally put large data files and My Documents stuff on my SD card along with some music. I put pictures, movies, and some music on the CF card.

If I had to choose only one card, I'd go with the biggest Class 4 or 6 SDHC card you can afford.

.
No disagreements from me apart from movies and music.

I've found that although the CF card is slower than the SDHC card it is definitely fast enough for music (though I happen to have put my playlists on the SDHC).

However I have found that my fairly fast Transcend CF card is NOT fast enough for movies. Movies however run fine for me from the Class 6 SDHC card.

Of course one of the joys of the 210 is having both CF and SDHC so that allows me to carry a ridiculously large number of CDs on it. Not much room left on a 16GB CF card when you get this carried away! !
