Question Command & Record Buttons Don't Turn on Device

On my Axim X51v, there is a separate tab in the Power applet (Start\Settings\System\Power) that has checkboxes I can select to turn the device on if a program button or the record button is pressed. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that on the iPAQ 211/210/214.

Am I missing something? I'd like to use my record button to record notes of what I need to do (usually when I'm driving or in an elevator) before I forget, and the record button not turning the device on is very inconvenient. Have you noticed the same thing? Is there some way to get the other buttons to turn the device on?

Now that you mention it, yup, I failed to notice it as that's something I always disable. I disabled it in my old ipaq hx2400 which I gave to my bro as I bought 214, and I disabled it on my bro's prehistoric Asus Mypal which was given to my father to let him get on par with technology. Sounds just normal that I didn't notice it on 214, as it's something I never use. And I obviously already went through all the system settings multiuple times.

I don't think it exists, My x51v had much more user setting. I liked being able to set the processor speed manually.

could a ROM update fix this

Could the voice record power on function somehow be restored with a ROM or update? I considered this a standard feature to be able to pull out and immediately take a voice memo.

That is the screen I get when I select the "key lock" icon in Settings.

So what device *does* come with a record button that turns on the device? Has this feature been discontinued across all Windows Mobile devices, or is this just HP's madness?

Most devices come with a 'key lock' applet

I believe this is just HP's lunacy/laziness in not coding an applet that lets the user chose whether the command buttons turn on the device or not. Windows Mobile allows either choice; HP simply chose to force you into a particular "preference."
