How to manage a second battery?

Got myself (for free :approve:) another battery identical to the factory one. I already regularly switch between batteries with my cellphone, but in that case I bought from china a second battery+desktop battery charger bundle; anyway, I couldn't find any desktop battery chargers for ipaq 214, and the idea of 1)remove drained battery 2) put inside charged battery 3)when home, remove again battery to put inside drained battery in order to recharge it 4) switch again batteries in order to continue using the battery I already started draining... and wait for clean bootstraps everytime, doesn't really make me enthusiastic.

Maybe someone in here has a good idea that I couldn't come up with

That's a hard one.

In the cradle of the Axim, there is a place to charge a second battery and I used it all the time. I would have to say that I expect you will have no choice at this point but to do the ugly - and switch and charge.

Unless you or someone you know is an electrical battery engineer! :)

Personally, I'm really hoping for a cradle (which should have been included in the first place) that has a slot for a spare battery. But then again, with such a huge battery, maybe I won't have the same need for a spare battery like I did with the Axim? Time will tell, I guess...

these are relatively new devices. There will be plenty of accessories in the near future.

Until then, I'd do the switch and charge at night

My same thinking about the "new devices" logic. So I went and looked for "desktop charger", "battery charger", whatever, for older iPAQ models (to say one, my previous hx2400), and well... there are none of those as well! My source has been eBay only, I admit it, it's not like I did go scavenging for them accessories in online shops... still, it's weird that not even chinese based sellers have them.

My thinking has also been "I have other 3.7V batteries (nokia cellphone, nikon coolpix), with their own charger, and the plus/minus contacts are well showed on the ipaq battery... I may try and adapt those chargers to work ALSO with 214's battery", yet I'm scared by the fact that I may screw something up... even if in theory, shouldn't be much of a risk. Being ipaq's battery 2200mAh, WAY more than any modded battery for cellphones and compact cameras, the worst thing that should happen is an uncomplete charge cycle. Maybe. Or not. Who knows.

Don't you use your shimmering top notch 214 to play movies/emulated psx games other than managing data? ;) That will make you want another battery, believe me!
