If you really would be so preciously helpful as to fetch a CF and test it out, then you may give a hint to other users as well (since I am already seriously thinking about it) to stealthily trash their 210's in a way that HP would send a replacement :D
Just be sure you use the cheapest/crappiest CF you find, as usually Kingston, Transcend or AData -plus others I don't know about- have sleep mode support which would mask the battery drain.

GOOD NEWS! One of the guys at work has 2 CF cards. One 5 year old card (almost certain to NOT have any sleep mode) and a newer one. He's promised to bring them in for me to test with. I'll let you know in a couple days how the test turns out.

(well I actually hope it's got the same problem, meaning it isn't an hardware bug they silently corrected, but is actually something related to firmware they still have to -and will- fix with a patch)
