Just wanted to let everyone know that I crossed my fingers and successfully installed AMV007's WM6 ramdisk on my HP210. It's been running great for a week so far--thanks woohoonews! I use it primarily as an 8MB cache for Opera 8.65, and browsing is significantly faster. Just set "Cache Directory4=\Ramdisk" in [User Prefs]. Opera doesn't hang for several seconds anymore after page loading--very worthwhile tweak imho.

Can you elaborate on those steps? what is the exact path to be edited to set the cache to ramdisk? I think it's working but i'm not positive. I have the ramdisk folder I just need to know how to take advantage of it.

Any help would be nice ;)

1) In Opera, clear your current cache. You can do this under Menu > Tools > Settings > History tab.

2) You'll need to copy over your opera.ini file to your PC and edit it there. Synch your HP 210, then in Activesync, click on the "Explore" button. Navigate to your opera.ini file. If you installed Opera to SD Card, it'll be in in \SD Card\Application Data\Opera\opera.ini. Drag it over to your PC desktop, then edit it with Notepad (or your favorite text editor).

Look for a block called "[User Prefs]". At the end of that block, add this line:
Cache Directory4=\Ramdisk

Then copy opera.ini back onto your HP 210.

3) Restart Opera and start surfing around. You can confirm that the cache was relocated by all the new files in \Ramdisk.

WOW!

Thanks a ton. For a test I visited some of my favorite high bandwidth websites. I'm impressed by how responsive it is. I can actually browse a little even when the page is loading.

Very nice, thank you

Original site is down

I have attached a zip file containing ramdisc.dll and ramdisk.exe. Just copy those 2 files into \Windows on the iPaq. The shortcut (lnk) files used to set the amount of RAM to allocate for ramdisk can be taken from the ZIP file from the original developer (AMV007).
The original files for the improved ramdisk are no longer available. Would you happen to have link files?

Hi,

The developer seems to have modified his website a little bit. The new URL is http://www.amv007.narod.ru/programs/Ramdisk_WinCE.zip
