I saw this posted somewhere but now I cannot find the post. On my X5, I could turn the device on by hitting one of the device keys. I do not see an option in settings for this on the 210. Is there? If not, are there any software utltilies out there that I can install do allow this functionality?

What exactly is the purpose of the device lock on the main screen. Is that so no applications can be run if a button gets hit. Do I need to set up a a password to make this work correctly. I can lock and unlock now without a password, but again, I did not have this on my last PDA, so ????.

thanks

You can lock the keypad to avoid pressing keys accidentally, and to prevent unintentional actions on your device while you carry it.

Here's the link to the thread (mine) on the command buttons turning on the device, which you could do with an Axim, but cannot do with the iPAQ 21x: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/ipaq-...rn-device.html

I really liked that functionality.

Me too. I think it's stupid and lazy of HP to not include that. They should let the user decide how they want that to work. It's especially inconvenient when you password protect your device with a strong password (which you should if it contains personal or financial information on it), because then you have to turn it on, tap in the password, and only then will the record button work...just turning on the device isn't enough; it HAS to be unlocked.

As silly as it might be to some, that's my number one "peeve" against the new device.

Now that you mention it... even if I never really use the record button to actually record, and even if I think that would more appropriately be associated to something like NoteM instead of the builtin notes... I agree with what you say. My psw is a relatively long pin, so as far as short write-only note recording goes, without the possibility to read anything, and shutting down the device as soon as the file has been written and the button released, that would be a great feature.
And dam easy to implement. Another negative point for HP on the side of lazyness.
