Hi everybody! I'm the newest iPaq 211 owner that I know and I am looking for a little help from you guys.
I am currently a pharmacy student and I am wondering what the must have apps that you all recommend as far as time wasters, calenders, ebooks, yada yada yada.
Post up your favorite programs that you use, what it's for, and if you can a link to where you got it from.
MDict for one, I think noone ever suggests it. I bet you can find plenty of free pharmacy StarDict databases to convert into MDict format, so thats not really a inutility. Just look for it on google.
Check out SkyScape's products. There's pretty much every medical program you could need at www.skyscape.com. The installer is intrusive but you can hack it to stop it phoning home.
Have a look at SoftMaker : Homepage too. The Office applications TextMaker, PlanMaker and Presentations beat anything built into WM6.
Then there's Welcome to WebIS.net - Home for your diary (I like PI2007 best.) FlexMail is here too but it has caused problems for some users. I'd look at the free qMail e-mail program here ダウンロード. Don't be put off by the web site!
Don't forget to look at what SBSH Mobile Software - Innovative applications for a mobile world! and Spb Software House have to offer. SPB Finance could be a must-have for students.
Finally, don't forget to make backups. I use the program at Sprite Mobile | Sprite Mobile Backup.
for a pharmacy student, check skyscape products - they have quite a selection for the medical sciences. They cost not a small amount however - just prepare yourself. :)
Lexi drugs is also a good pharm resource. It uses a general reader and then you add the databases as appropriate.
epocrates is more for the physician and probably less useful for a pharm student.
games and other programs - too many and too dependant on what you like.
Fitaly (Instant Text - Textware Solutions) for a useful text input method;
SKTools for setting up, cleaning and optimizing your PDA;
Total Commander /CE for a decent free file manager;
PocketDict for a free dictionary;
ubook reader (the first letter is the greek letter mu in fact) for a decent cheap ebook reader.

The concept behind fitaly is interesting indeed, and the multipurpose layout of the keyboard kicks ass ;) yet I didn't throw myself into it too much, I just can't stand having to learn another movement pattern when I type. Plus, I have the doubt, the most used letters in english are also the most used in italian?
Anywho, at this point, I'd rather suggest the use of the free PocketCM keyboard, which has the most comprehensive customizability I've ever seen; given you have the time and will of setting up your own skin/layout, you can do ANYTHING with that nifty piece of software.

I've been a user of Fitaly for YEARS! It is one program that honestly was worth the learning curve!
Once you've got the basics of the layout, creating your own personal "slides" (you can have multiple slides for each letter/character if you wish) makes it even better, even faster, and even more accurate! Just make sure you have a system to how/where you put your slides so that you remember where they are.
Apart from the word "Italy" happening to appear along the top line of letters I do not believe that the choice of letter layout had anything to do with the Italian language. Am I wrong about that?

That was an open question ;) Probably the most common letters in written english are also the same in italian...
What I believe tho, is that in my peculiar case, the steep learning curve may lead to a only marginal advantage, as all the writing I do on my iPAQ is names, and expenses descriptions. I practically never "write stuff" :)

Well I use it for writing in French too and I am quite happy with the layout. If I remember well, they have done some tests in the past and the layout was quite universally efficient in comparison with other SIPs. Fitaly is the first soft I install on each new PDA.
