WM6 dropping a wireless configuration on ipaq210

I have had my 210 for several weeks now. Really haven't had a problem but this one.

On my iPaq, I have 2 wireless profiles, one for Home with a hidden SSID, password etc. The other is for works PDA wireless network.

Couple weeks after getting the ipaq set up, the configuration for work disappear as if it was deleted. At the time I thought it might be realated to the company changing the wireless networks. I got it reset on the new network and it has worked great for a few weeks.

Today, I pull it out and note that it was not connected. Checked the configuration and the profile for works wireless network was not present, as if it was deleted.

My home network profile has never been affected....

Once, may be a fluke. Twice, I wonder if there is an issue. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Solutions?

Thx

Did not happen in my configuration. I have a someway similar situation as I saved two profiles, home and work, both hidden SSIDs (eve if I rarely use them as I obviously have full featured PCs that are connected to the internet).

I had a similar problem. I haven't had trouble since I set every network that I use to be a 'Work' network and set both boxes at Settings-->Connections-->Connections-->Advanced-->Select Networks to 'My Work Network.' It doesn't seem to matter what is selected here as long as both selections are the same. When they were different, networks started disappearing from the list. It's not always possible to do this but it worked with my setup.
I don't know why my networks kept disappearing, why this worked or whether it might help you.

Have either of you tried installing the updated WiFi driver provided by HP? It may not have specifically tried to address the issue of a dropped connnection, but my have "inadvertently" fixed it by handling roaming better. Here's the URL to the fix: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...kId=135&mode=3

Good idea. I haven't installed the update. Actually, WiFi on my iPAQ 214 has been fine. I had trouble with disappearing connections on other devices.

I have the wireless update - and it has not helped. I will try and set inside the profile as "work". Does anyone really know what the difference is anyway between the "connect to work and connect to internet? The manual only states that you should use the "connect to work" if the network requires a proxy server.

I might have additional issues as now I when I do a "soft reset" once I enter the unlock password, I get a error:

"The file "WATCHEDB" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or once of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or replacing this file." Trying right now to find the file to replace it.

In any case, the IPAQ runs beautiful at home, but does not connect at work :-(

I am beginning to think I need to restart fresh and go from there.

I appreciate the replies.

Common Thread: Error during connection handshake

I have experienced this issue several times, from both my work and home wifi routers. It occurs whenever the wireless router is on and there is either a failure of the network or router while the iPaq is trying to connect. So for instance if your iPaq is trying to connect and fails (someone changed the psk or ssid; power cycled during handshake connection, etc...) the connection profile disappears! So then I have to go dig out the ssid and psk and resetup the connection. I am now looking for a reg insert tool that will just recreate the entry whenever this happens (if one even exists...) with a single click/tap; however I suspect that the psk is encrypted making this option even less likely.

(Yes I have the wifi patch from hp. Yes both connections are setup using the connects to Work.)

An update on this error. Apparently, this file is only replaced during a Factory Reset. I purchased and used Sprite to back up the iPAQ onto my SD card (and PC). I then performed a factory reset (without the SD card in the iPAQ). Re-inserted the SD card and performed a restore - I browsed through all the files before restoring - finally locating the "WATCHEDB" file. I restored all files excepting the directory in which this file resided.

Now after a soft reset - no error and it now will sync (not that I sync often).

I still don't know the source of the profile dropping though I will have to watch to see if the conditions exist that Skyanvil states.

Aximsitewifiicon Save your wifi settings in Windows Mobile 6

There is a know design issue in Windows Mobile 6 that if there is any problem connecting to wifi, like DHCP Timeout, the wireless settings will be deleted for that access point. This means you have to re-enter the settings each time there is even the simplest problem connecting.

My friends have come up with a quick solution to this problem. It is a little application you can get on Handango for $2 that saves and restores your wifi settings using standard Windows Mobile APIs. Search handango.com for "Wifi Hero" and you should find it or the direct link is WiFi Hero : Handango

The coders work for Implicit Software (Implicit Software Solutions Inc - Software Development / Mobile Games and Applications - Vancouver, Canada) if anyone is interested in a site licence for this tool you can contact them through their web page.

Or there's the free method where you create a note with your network key in it, name it something cryptic and put it on your storage card. Then when it disappears, you just copy and paste! Not real secure, but really handy. :-)
