I can't tell that HP didn't manage the warranty repair excellently, on their part they always were definitely fast. This "third time" the weirdest thing happened tho, the speaker came back to life. It kept dyeing over and over with tcpmp, until it simply started working again out of nowhere. So I had to cancel the repair call with HP ;) Still... bah

Something is definately not right in the speaker connection, I'm thinking. I mean it could be a driver issue, but the behavior just makes me think it's a physical connection at fault.

If it were me, I'd be inclined to get it replaced even if it was working (for now). Anything that "fixes" itself can just as likely to decide later on to unfix itself.

for what it may be worth, since the last time I wrote the post, I am still using that same device and the audio has been working ok. On the other side, I noticed the touchscreen off-target sensitivity which I thought wasn't present... even realigning the screen still has the lower right corner (scroll down arrow) being shifted off. Bah.

Bumping an old thread alright, but just wanted to update this story: today the speaker died again.
Made some distorted output for a short while, like the one you get when you pump up the volume of the car-radio on a cheap speaker system, then silence, then distorted output again, the silence again.
Later today I turned it on, audio was audible but still lightly distorted, then I turbed it off.
Tried it again right now, audio distorted like before, then complete silence.
Physical connection could be an issue, but since this device gets its fair share of bumps and hits during its day by day use, wouldn't a faulty connection start giving issues sooner?
Whatever. Warranty is overdue anyway, so I might try my luck and see if I still get someone to fall for it, otherwise I could decide to buy another device.

EDIT: One day after this post, the speaker started working AGAIN with distortion effect, lasted a few seconds then again went back to silence. Bah.
