(in)compatible software ipaq 210 211 214

It seemed to me a while back that it would be worthwhile to create and maintain a list of programs that have difficulties with our "beloved" 210/11/14? I started this thread on a different forum discussing our monster machine and after consultation, got permission to copy and hopefully maintain the list here, too. Some of the names and references of thanks are to the other forum.

As far as I am aware:

Will soon add quirks from the OS (though that is a bigger project) and bundled applications/programs
Windows Mobile 6.0 Classic

Bluetooth compatibility difficulties reported with a combination SPB titles and/or Skype. (thanks bigvoice and DrAT)

Doesn't Work

Card Export II - per company report ticket answer (thanks Yildi)

Chinese Monster version 6 (version 5.3 works)

WiFiFoFum - not set up to play nicely with our marvell chip. (thanks David Hettel)

SPB Backup - the actual application works and is not reported to "crash" the system, but rather using the backups to restore system has been reported to cause "Unrecognized Card in Socket 1" error

(resco backup has been reported as working well however do not "restore" from backup made from completely different device - has led one poster on aximsite to damage which mandated him to replace his unit. see sprite 6.2 below)

TomTom 6 (other than 6.03 - which does work.)

acbPowerMeter

SKSchema from SKSoftware

MiniStumbler: Does not see Wi-Fi card of the 211 so the program will not function.

Works Partially

Omega One Battery Pack Pro - report that the power store information doesn't update after a period.

Sprite Backup 6.2 - strong password encryption/decryption scrambles password when restoring, at least between devices. A work-around exists to not restore security settings: (don't restore the following files: "\Pocket PC\System Data\File System\Windows\System\Default.mky" AND "\Pocket PC\System Data\File System\Windows\System\System.mky") - thanks franktl

Worms World Party - game works well, but the mapping to hardware buttons has been reported if you hexedit config file (WWPSave.dat) - (thanks rush214)

Fleximail (thanks DrAT) Since there is only one post claiming it working to some level, and the company still claims that it isn't compatible with the 210 211 214 and DRat has posted some serious and potentially very problematic limitations, I hesitate to move it here, but will for the meanwhile. More experiences with fleximail as it is?)

native PIM with Outlook 2003/7 in Vista and XP with a lot of info (Pocket Informant 8 has been reported as working well)

coreplayer 1.2.*

PIE with Chinese OS - significant slowdown surfing Chinese language sites reported (at least once)

Unclear Functioning

Real VGA - suspicion that it awakens "Unrecognized Card in Socket 1" error. Not clear if it is the real suspect. Though other reports that it works well.

WordNetCE Dictionary (works but the text is very big)

Messaging - has reports of deleted mail items while using Gmail POP - though it may work with gmail IMAP

Being Examined Further - i.e. not sure but at least a report was made

Macromedia Flash 7 bothering SPB Plus Repeating Alarms function

Fully Functional

Adobe Flash - for windows mobile.

AE Button Plus 2.6 - Allows you to bind up to 4 different actions (of more than 40) to almost any hardware button including volume slider, SoftKey buttons and even green/red phone buttons.

Agile Messenger: Agile Mobile - MSN, ICQ, AOL, AIM, XMPP, IMPS, Google Talk & Yahoo! Messenger for your mobile phone

Note: You'll have to do a quick free sign-up of that forum, in order to download the file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ked+pocket+AIM

Cool work :) I have to report that I never encountered any kind of problems with Real VGA up until now (apart from unavoidable visualization glitches in apps that don't support high resolutions), and I am at 128dpi resolution all the time.
And BTW, I discovered looking through your list that now there's an update to HanDBase, I've been with 3.5 for a lot of time now ;)

Theemed - do you have a CF card in place while you use the Real VGA? Feel free to add any other programs which are missing from my list that you have had experience with

VERY nice (and pretty complete) list! I would make the following additions:

Programs with Issues:
Sprite Backup 6.2: strong password encryption/decryption scrambles password when restoring, at least between devices. A work-around exists to not restore security settings: (don't restore the following files: "\Pocket PC\System Data\File System\Windows\System\Default.mky" AND "\Pocket PC\System Data\File System\Windows\System\System.mky")

Programs That Work without Issue:
  • TranCreative Magic Button
  • Pocket Informant 2007 (v. 7.x)
  • MortPlayer (Media player)
  • MemMaid 1.72

What problems have you seen with Card Export and CorePlayer?
I'm using both.

And you list Pocket Plus as fully compatible but the backlight slider does not work on the 210.

Coreplayer works just fine for me. I think some folks are having issue that it is not optimized for the Ipaq 21x series yet. So for me, it works fine, but possibly could work better once the optimizations are done.

Card Export runs for me, but it does not fully function. My PC can see the drives but can't access them. Softick support says they are still working on it. So it appears to work successfully for some folks and not for others.

Thank you, thank you for this Excellent list; lets continue to let it grow. Also I have no problems with FlexMail 2007 at all on my HP IPAQ 211. Been using over 3 months.

in regards to card export II, the answer came from the company itself that it isn't (fully) supported, yet. It is good to hear that others have had different experieinces. Please elaborate.

In regards to flexmail, again the company noted the difficulties, and I think that primarily it was focused on POP3 accounts. Those who downloaded either just the headers or just 1k bits from the mails on IMAP accts seem to be doing ok with it.

Coreplayer is in the area of not fully functioning, which fits in my opinion as not being optimized for the 210.

I had not heard that of pocketplus. I will indicate it (tomorrow) with an update.

Thanks again everyone for contributing

When I activate CardExport, my PC becomes very slow and it cannot see the content of the cards (they just appear as empty). I have contacted the company and they have confirmed the incompatibility (see my post above).

WM5Storage works as it has been told by someone else and it has more functionality than CardExport.

Note: I tried CE only with the 8GB SDHC Transcend card I have and I have upgraded to the last version before testing.

slingplayer, works 100% (free with 211, use WM5 version)

Alas, I always have a CF inserted... and about the list, well, nothing major to add comes to mind, unless you want to include the old version of handbase, 3.5, and TodayAgenda (if that wasn't included already).

Oh BTW the correct name of the app is "TCPMP", not TCMP :)

Theemed - I'll have to try the Real VGA myself. It sounds cool. I was a bit afraid in the meanwhile because of the CF card problem which was reported.

Mingkee - thanks for the list. Any other Chinese language programs that you have verified would be great, if you have any others to add. Since my computer doesn't have the Chinese character set installed - it looks like just empty boxes for me, but I would cut/paste your word in Chinese Characters, and for those who can read it, would be able to do so.

Also, what is "chinese addon"? Is that the title of the program or is that a description?

Thanks goes to you all for your reports so as to make the list relevant to others

PocketNES

- like many programs can't use buttons 2 and 3
- while using RealVGA in 96 or 128 the area where you can tap "B"
and "A" is not in the graphiti area but higher
- you can't push 2 buttons at the same time (like holding "B" to run
and push "A" to jump in mario, you'll have to release "B" before
pressing "A")
- sound isn't that good (somekind of echo or vibrato added or
something) but I think it's like that for pocketnes on any device.
- It doesn't save settings so you'll have to remap start and select
to calender and messaging after each time you completely exit. It
will also look stupidly in "ALL FOLDERS!!!!!" for roms instead of letting
you select the folder,
- like many other program you can only access first level directories.
This is someting I just cannot believe. You can load \nes\ff1e.nes
but not \roms\nes\ff1e.nes

Real VGA seems to create problems independently from the device, to such apps. I have the same issues with pocketsnes recompile by n0p, and fpsece, as the touchscreen areas associated to the buttons are wrong... still usable with some training in pocketsnes in landscape mode... but totally dead in fpsece.

Resco Backup

Can anyone confirm that Resco Backup works FINE (as long as you are restroring backups made from the same device, obviously)?

Since I already spent enough time installing programs, etc., I hesitate to try Resco, even though it should work fine... Any thoughts/experience to share?
