BT or A2dp headphones

Dear all,

I am a bit confused. In my neck of the woods these units are wicked expensive, so I prefer not to goof off with this.

What is the difference between the BT and the A2dp technologies in headphones (anyone with a link or explanation).

Which is better? Which is more widely supported?

And can anyone offer any suggestions for good headphones for a non-audiophile, but general music listener. I am concerned also if it is possible to exercise in the headphones, so any practical experience is very welcome.

Many thanks

a2dp is basically stereo BT
where BT is mono

a headset for phone calls vs. headphones for stereo music

Most stereo headphones will do both

A2dp is a bluetooth profile.
BT has different profiles that do different things, PAN, HID, A2DP, etc etc
A2dp allows the use of true stereo headsets.

This link might explain it better.

Edit: writing while Rad posting.

Thanks for the explanations and the links. Now I will expand the question to be more specific to the IPAQ 210 211 214 -

Do any headphones *NOT* work with the A2dp?
Do headphones have to specifically say in their profiles A2dp to support it, or if it says BT stereo headphones, is it to be taken for granted (don't flame me!!! :) )

It seems to me that the motorola s9's seem to be a very popular choice.

You have to look at the BT stack on each device to see what profiles it supports.

Profiles are the specific jobs/abilities/tasks that a device can pair to. We will ASSUME that a new PPC (BTv2) can pair to all available devices and support whatever profiles are current (it was an issue when some devices were BTv1 and some were BTv2)

So if you buy a headset that shows Profile X, you could assume that the PPC will support it.

EXCEPTION to the above is with VERIZON PPC Phones as they have an annoying habit of crippling the BT stack to prevent filesharing and such... I suppose others may as well

So far, I've tested the Plantronics Pulsar 590, Voyager 855 and the Gear4 BluPhones with the HP 210. All worked fine.

Plantronics Voyager 855 will NOT pair with my iPAQ 210:realmad:

Really great high quality headsets that can switch between music and phone/Skype/voice, A2DP/EDR, the works, but will NOT work with the 210!

But it does - I've double-checked this with my 210 + Voyager 855. Just make sure you disable the Bluetooth on the device your Voyager was previously paired to (and used with) and restart the Voyager before pairing.

I've been using the Motorola S9 with my 210, and am very satisfied. It has superb sound quality, reception and convenience.

I had a bit of difficulty getting adequate reception outdoors until discovering (with help from this forum) that the 210 needs to be on the small of my back while on my belt, instead of on the front or in a shirt pocket. Otherwise the body shields the signal enough to induce glitches in the sound.

Indoor operation is flawless without having to worry about body shielding because of signals bouncing from walls etc.

A BIG advantage of the S9 is its control of volume and channel selection by merely touching the headset; so there is no need to access the 210 directly while exercising or walking or sitting in your office. And it's very comfortable to wear.

Without getting technical, but just replying to the "expensive" part, you may want to check this website, from which I ordered several things: SinoyHK.com - Digital life starts here.

I tried to use my old Siemens HHB-750 headphones with 214 and didn't succeed - iPAQ said that no service is available or sth, although headphones work with A2DP (play music in stereo) with my PC and phone
