HP Screen protector FB019AA??

When you buy the HP Screen protector FB019AA what do you actually get? Is it just one screen protector? Is it one of the reusable kind, or is it a one time screen protector. Is this a clear protector, an anti-glare protector or something in between? How good is the fit on these?

Thanks

I understand why you ask, since HP didn't bother to provide anything that is even close to a detailed description of what they're selling. That sort of laziness is a recurring theme for HP when it comes to the iPAQ 200 series. However, I took a chance and bought one.

It comes with 3 screen protectors of the anti-glare variety. The protector uses a thick(er) sheet of plastic than some protectors, so it does not flex very much. As such, it is fairly easy to install without creating air bubbles that are hard to remove. It is a perfect fit to the full dimensions of the screen without gaps of any kind. The back is lightly sticky.

I currently have one on my 211 that I had on it's predecessor. Using scotch tape, I was able to remove the protector from the defective iPAQ and then purge the dust from the sticky side with another piece of tape. I then applied it to the second iPAQ. Now, I can't vouch for whether it was INTENDED to be re-used, but with a bit of caution and care (in cleaning the sticky side with some tape), it CAN be re-used. Of course, unless the device dies, why would you ever remove it?

Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Does HP recommend spraying water on the screen before installing these?

Are there any protectors of the static cling type for the 210?

Nope no water. They are very easy to install. I personally wouldn't recommend the static cling type of protector because they rely on a very weak and transient force to hold them in place. The will often allow dirt to get to the screen and then if they slide while in use, they will actually end up scratching the screen. I actually like the HP protectors, though I still prefer the Boxwave protectors slightly more. The stickiness is pretty low, just enough to hold them in place and be able to easily pull them back up if you start putting it on crooked.

I bought some of the static cling type from amazon. The company was called Gomadic and the name of the product was Screenguardz. They were 15 for $10.95. They fit fine and are the usual full-of-bubbles protectors. I might be willing to pay more for something better, but I don't really like the idea of putting something sticky on the screen.

As someone who has been putting something sticky on touch screens literally for YEARS (since my first iPAQ 3150 in 2002), it's not a problem. Never has been and probably never will be, providing it isn't super sticky. Something with a low tack is just fine. The screens are designed with placing protectors on them in mind.

What I HAVE had an issue with in the past was using the static variety of protector. They don't do well at staying stationary and when they shift position they can allow dust under the protector and then the next time they shift, they will drag the dust along and scratch the screen. I actually permanently damaged a screen with one of these "protectors" and will therefore never use one again.

I have thought about this long. And I have decided that I will not feed HP. I am disappointed in the way HP has chosen to not support the two hundred series. As such I will be ordering WriteSHIELDs® I have had very good luck with them in the past, and will try them again.
