i have an iPaq 214 which is charged in the car by a brodit -Holder with USB-Loader.
If the PDA is turned of or does nothing it will be charged well.
If Navigation-Software (ie. MN6 or iGo8) is running on the PDA the device will not be charged.
The Charge-LED lights, but the battery-indicator will not raise up. If i start with 90% battery and drive along 30min the battery has 89%. On my old dell X51v i can start with 10% and drive 1 hour and the battery has 100%.
I have tested slow and fast loading in the Power-Settings, but this will not help.
In the case you cited, without the usb charger plugged in, the battery drop in 30 mins would have beenm for example, 5% and not 1%. MiniUSB power input is limited to 200mAh in "fast charge" mode, so way lower than the power inpout allowed for 24pin connector.
I use the same holder and charger, iGO8, bluetooth GPS and a bluetooth external speaker. And have had no problems charging the unit whilst driving. Just got back from 2 weeks in Southern France (10.5hr drive) and the unit charged to full and stayed there the whole journey.
Do you have a CF card, as there seems to be some power drain issues with them, and that may be the cause.
Did you by any chance have Wi-Fi on? My experience is your iPAQ should have been able to charge with just Bluetooth enabled. If it was with just the Bluetooth enable try turning down the brightness on the screen, if you can not charge with USB charging enabled and set to fast, at 75% screen brightness then my guess is something is wrong.

Do you have the new Brodit-Holder with a cut-out for the Audio-Jack?
In my one is no cut-out, but i have seen on the Brodit Homepage that the holder now has this cut-out. This must be a new model.
@Theemed:
The devices is charging, but not enough. It seems like the pda consumes more power then the charger gives him. Sorry for this bad english

I have the old one as well, the screen brightness is turned right up, I'm using TTS voices with iGO8, using as much power as I possibly can and still charges.
I have TomTom 6 on mine. I also find that it won't charge - it stays fairly stable - but won't ever get to 100%. I think it's the processing power being used by TT6 which just matches the amount of charge.
It's not something I worry about. In fact, I prefer it running around 90% rather than 100% - that way the charge light isn't flickering away.
I'm glad to hear that you have solved your problem.The same thing happened with my colleague few weeks back and now i saw this thread.Firstly i was also planning to buy iPAQ 214. But since now i know about this issue, i'm in a hesitation.I think this HP iPAQ 212 is better for me, since my other friends are very happy with it. By the way what do you think.I think there is no huge difference can happen to me if i buy 212 rather than 214.
