Where to install programs?

Just upgraded from my HX4705 to a 210. Wondering if it's still prefered to install programs to the CF or SD memory card, or if using built in memory is desirable on this device for any reason? As I recall there were issues with having volitale data in the device memory on the 47xx, is this true of this device also?

Hi,
I've recently gone from 4700 to 210 also. Liking the speed and extra memory available so far.
For your question, I'm interested to know where most people are installing their programs too - so far I've just installed everything into "Device" as there seems to be plenty of space (for what I need anyway). Then, I use CF&SD for data/media etc.

I'll let someone else respond on the volatile memory question - I believe there shouldn't be a problem with battery going flat on WM6, but I'm not sure I can explain it.

Cheers.

With devices that use wm5+, there is no need to install programs to memory cards to make your device faster. Wm5+ manage memory more like a desktop computer, so stuff is installed to the rom which doesnt affect the ram.

So go ahead and install to the device.

I get the volatility part, and that data loss isn't a factor with WM5 and beyond. But I thought that the technology used in non-volatile RAM was quite a bit slower to access than the current high performance SD or CF cards. I thought I had read before that made external storage a better performing place for programs and data?

ROM is slower, but memory cards are like rom also in the fact that they dont require power to keep data.
I dont have a wm5+ device so i cant tell if there is any difference in speed.

Use the internal memory for programs. If you have big data files (like images, video, audio, ...) put them on the SD and/or CF card(s).
