HP **New BIOS v1.00**

HP has a new file up for the iPAQ 210 under a new heading of BIOS. That at first glance might appear to be a new BIOS incorporating the previous released updates. Well depending on just what BIOS means to you, this maybe true.
**If BIOS means a firmware/ROM upgrade you'll be disappointed.
**If BIOS means just having to run one program to patch the iPAQ two hundred series you maybe happy.
HP appears to claim that this file was released on the 10 of June 2008, so no doubt it's been well tested. Of course I haven't seen it till today. :( And it has yet to appear in my email update from HP
Type: BIOS
Version: 1.00 (10 Jun 2008)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows Mobile 6
File name: sp39620.exe (4.4 MB)

***********************************************
Description:
This softpaq adds support for an extended battery, improves Wi-Fi roaming reliability, improves CompactFlash (CF) data transfer rates, and fixes a typographical error in asset data.
ENHANCEMENTS:
-Wi-Fi driver update for Access Point (AP) roaming
- Update Wi-Fi driver to 38p41
- Improved AP roaming performance
FIXES:
- Fixes a problem where the Wi-Fi driver would not seemlessly switch to an AP with a better signal when roaming.
- Improves the transfer rate for large files when using a CF Serial IO card to send from PC to the device.
- Enables power management support for the extended battery.
- Fixes the LCD Manufacturer name by changing it to "SAMSUNG".
PREREQUISITES:
- Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 (or later) is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000.
- Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows Vista.
HOW TO USE:
1. Attach your device to the synchronization cable and ensure the synchronization cable is attached to the desktop or notebook.
2. Execute the file and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Once installation is complete it will ask you to restart the device so the installation can be complete.
NOTE:
1. This download includes all previous fixes that were up on the WEB.
2. It is a compilation of all the fixes put into one download.
3. If you already have a fix downloaded on your device this download will override any previous ones.
4. This download will not conflict with any previous fixes downloaded on your device.

Unless I have missed out something when I checked the installed drivers it is really disappointed to see that the new HP BIOS update is just to include all the previously released drivers into one patch.

hmm, i made another big mistake by installing soft from hp

before, i had absolutly no problem with battery draining.

after i installed that thing they call bios, i found that fully charged battery was at 0% in less than 3 hours (pda turned off, sleeping)

so i uninstalled it, did softreset as requested, and another problem is here
it break my CF interface. inserting any cf card shows "Unrecognized card" dialog, asking for name of device driver

really good work HP

As far as I am aware you have at best four choices.

Live with it as it is.

Install this single driver update, CompactFlash Data Improvement to regain the use of your cf card.

Reinstall the so called BIOS update. Once the CF Data Improvement has been applied it doesn't appear to uninstall correctly.

Or do a hard reset as this is NOT a BIOS update. If you have backup your device you could also restore it, and that might work as well.

It would seem that HP in it's desire to always support it's customers at the least possible cost has decided to remove the individual files and only provide one file, that does every thing HP believes needs to be done. Proving that once again HP knows better than it's customers.

Or in HP loyalist speak HP in a desire to make life choices easier for it's customers has eliminated confusion by providing one master file that does all necessary updates on the iPAQ two hundred series.

I tried to install the "bios" (haha) update .. but it says "ERROR : INVALID MODEL ID" ;-(

when i select to download the English version of the update it downloads the same file so id like to try the individual patches..
