CF Serial Port Issues

I have been doing a lot of testing with my iPAQ 210 and several soaring GPS units (through a CF Card Serial Port) and CF Card GPS units and I seem to have found a bug in the iPAQ 210's hardware or software. The GPS data is interrupted every second or 2. Testing with the same CF Card Serial Port and the 2 CF Card GPS units on my iPAQ hx4700 works perfectly.

I have a customer that is seeing the same problem. Receiving GPS data seems to work OK (even though it is interrupted every second or 2) but transferring a flight log fails.

I just spent an hour or 2 on the phone with HP support and they keep saying it's a 3rd party hardware or software issue - even though the same hardware and software works great on my hx4705. They asked me to send the unit in for warranty repair. I'm going to do it in hopes that it will get the problem escalated to the right people at HP.

I have attached 2 NMEA data files that show the problem. One of the files was done with my hx4705 and looks perfect. The other file was done with my iPAQ 210 and shows the data loss every second or 2. You can see that the lines are broken when they shouldn’t be.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there a work-around or fix?

Thanks,
Paul

I've not done as much invetstigation as you but this might explain why I can't get TomTom 6.03 to work correctly with my CF GPS. If I use a bluetooth GPS TomTom is fine but with my CF GPS live navigation stops after a few seconds (all other functions still work). If I move to another screen (in TomTom) and back to the live map then it will work for a couple of seconds then either the screen freezes again or the map position shown is different from the real position. (Which of these happens seems random). The CF GPS works fine in my Loox 720.

Have you installed the **firmware** update or the HP CF Data Improvement driver? My understanding is this was suppose to have been addressed by this.

I had installed the upgrade and it did not help.

However, installing the latest drivers for my Socket Ruggedized Serial IO CF Card seems to have solved the problem with that device. I continue to have data loss problems with 2 different CF Card GPS units (Holux and Haicom).

I tried finding drivers for the 2 CF GPS units, but there are none. THey are both supposed to be plug and play. They work great on my iPAQ hx34705, but on the 210 data is dropped every second or 2.

I still feel that the 210's CF card port has a hardware or software issue.

Had the same issue with mine, HAiCOM 305III & iGO8, drops the position after a few seconds, very disappointed as it worked very well on my H4700.
