I have been experiencing a weird behaviour in the top left of my screen. When i tap the close button on any program, the region just below is "tapped".
for example.. in IE, tap close, and refresh is "tapped".
i did a hard reset, same result. so im guessing its the screen os hardware that's gone bad??
Do you have a screen protector on? If so try removing it.
Also use a business card or similar to clean around the edge of the screen. Junk can get stuck in the small gap there and cause the screen to distort slightly.
also.. i forgot to mention in my original post.. i can manage to hit the close button.. but only if i tap in just the right place which is the top left of where the close button square should be.. and i have to tap quite a few times to get just the right spot.
yeah i did another hard reset yesterday (so thats 2 now) and did a very careful re-align after the reset. still no joy.
Also.. i tried the top left of the screen (start menu) and that side works fine. The problems start about 10mm in from the left hand side.
so yes.. will get it sent back for fixing..
incidentally.. i have only had it back from them for about 6 weeks (after they replaced the motherboard) because it was hard resetting its self all the time.
I am thinking some digitizer has problem, because I have similar problem
when I tap t, it comes out 6 sometimes
not too often happen, but annoying
may try replacement digitizer
I have just got my ipaq back. (took just 7 days, which is impressive)
anyway.. they replaced the screen..
The new screen is MUCH better than the old one. The old screen had that huge gap between the surface layer and the actual screen, which felt horrible and meant you had to push a bit to "tap" the screen. Now its a much reduced gap between the two layers and is much nicer to use.
After I restored my spb backup, something slightly wierd happened.. a message popped up saying there were updates to install.. these were installed and my ipaq restarted.. now there is an "Extended ROM" section on the asset viewer.. cant remember if that was there before.. but it lists 4 updates under "component details". these are wifi, cf data loss, extended battery and lcm vendor all are listed as version 1.001.000. I assume these are the updates previously released for this model.
so.. in summary.. im a happy bunny.. unless it dies again.. :-)
Just curious about one thing tho... I am still using this device even if bringing up the SIP selection menu is DA PAIN, as I have to guess-tap sometimes up to 10 times, it's even worse in 128dpi resolution.
I thought about getting a replacement as well... but how the heck can you stay WITHOUT a PDA while it gets replaced? I can't really imagine how I could do without this device for some days, I mean, I always need it unless I'm on vacation... and more often than not I need it also while on vacation.

I'm with Themed. That's why I always buy the Next Day (Advance, if it's available) Replacement Coverage with every PDA I buy. The device is so integrated into my life, I can't life (the same) without it. People would definately notice immediately when I started failing to show up (on time) where I was supposed to be.
Themed, did you not get the Next Day Coverage?

Nope... did not... for several reasons that would be OT to explain. Let's say that I miss having another, older and uglier device to revert back to in these cases, for some time; in your place (as I understand from the info in your sig) I wouldn't mind being separated for a while from the 210 as long as I had a "little brother" able to do the small stuff which is maybe sparse, but *essential* to me on a daily basis.
Edit: ...I sort of have to thank you FrinkTL, as replying to your post made me remember that, during all the PDA switches I made, there should be "the first" somewhere buried in our old house, as when I bought an ipaq 2400 I gave it to my brother, who later bought an Asus, to whom I later gave my ipaq 2400 when I bought the 210 and who gave his Asus to dad... but that very first, a glorious Casio Cassiopeia with burned backlight, SHOULD be there somewhere, unless it was trashed or given away by brother, which I do hope not.
i guess the pda isnt soo integrated with my life yet. the 214 is my first pda. so havent really had the chance to really integrate it yet. but yeah i missed it while it was away.
id say, just bite the bullet.. send it back.. it really dosent take long and youll be alot happier when it comes back.
It is integrated in mine tho.
I COULD in theory use a regular mini-paper calendar to do the job, even in the same belt-clip HP leather case that I use now for the device. but I'm scared to try. And if I end up needing navigator in the meanwhile? Ohh bad thoughts.
Not to mention wanting to watch Friends off the CF, you can't do that with a paper calendar.
Yeah I'll have to bite the bullet in the end, as close as possible to the end of the year of warranty.
BTW, the Casio Cassiopeia E200 is here now, too bad it's been trashed by my brother in the meantime, there is no battery, main nor backup, and the device doesn't turn on anymore even if on charger.
The replacement unit from HP shows an almost identical HP Asset viewer than before, the only differences being:
- Serial starting with 3CC8390*, the old was 3CC8090*
- Unique ID HEX code (obviously)
- WLAN driver version (which I hadn't upgraded in the old device)
- Ad additional tab in assetviewer, named "Extended ROM", which contains the updates released until now
Nothing else changes.
Getting back to screen, well it's great now. I still have to apply a protection (which I have home, and now I'm at the office), so it's really grippy compared to the cheapo films I use.
But it's dam sensitive now, and I like it. I can just touch it with my fingertip and it responds with no difficulty at all, while, if I wanted to do the same thing with the old device, instead of touching with the fingertip, I had to firmly tap with my fingernail's edge.
Same improvements can be seen with the accuracy, as now the scrolling bars are triggered where they should, instead of being off about 3mm's in some cases (and I did a regular alignment procedure, didn't have to "hack" anything). A quick test with free draw in Notes confirmed the accuracy issue being apparently solved. I am in this very moment keeping the CF inserted to test at the same time if the battery drain is present.
@FrinkTL, since you seem to have had the same improvement with a replacement unit, what was your serial number first digits, again?
